Been looking at a R/T Seattle- Vancouver. Cascades train # 510 out # 517 back. Frist train out from SEA last train back from VAC. Amsnag shows all business class sold out the whole month of April. Did not check any other months. Is that set of trains that busy because of business travelers ? I checked week days because thats when I would be in SEA. I read in other post that lines for Cascade trains in SEA can be very long for coach pax.

Curious... I've seen this before, but that was when the Talgo's were out of service for cracks in 2008 and the Cascade service was being provided with Superliner equipment. No BC on those, naturally, so ARROW was programmed to just show BC as sold-out and not allow it to be sold.

Are they using Superliners again to/from Vancouver, perhaps?

Haven't heard anything about that. How is a Superliner Coach seat compared to Cascades BC?

Better IMHO. Nothing beats a Superliner coach seat. They are equaled possibly in the 2 plus 1 BC seats (former Metroliner) seats on certain East Coast and Midwest routes.

The Talgo BC seats are comfortable but still do not approach the Superliner seats, esp. as the Superliner seats have leg rests (except for the ersatz modifications done to a few of them that have been added to some San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner consists.

My bad, I think there is a service alert for NW, a few days ago. I just forgot. You are most likely right, about ARROW and or the Superliners.

While I don't specifically know the details of the service alert, not having read it, I doubt it had to do with Superliners in April.

There was a mudslide last week that had some trains screwed up for a couple of days, so that's the more likely explanation for that note.

a friend of mine in Tacoma is trying to book tickets for Easter Weekend, and can't find anything, business or coach, north of Bellingham. I wonder if there's some track work up in Canada or something.

Did the mudslide damage any Cascades trainsets? If not, then I don't think Superliners would substitute.

We had business seats on the May 6th PM train from VAC-BEL ... we were called this afternoon and told that there was an equipment change, and they would be using a superliner ... so no business class seats. I went to amtrak.com and only the PM train shows business "sold out", the morning train still had business seats available. I asked both the Amtrak woman who called me (and I also called the 1-800#) and they both assured me that our BEL-SEA on May 9th business seats were still good. I posted this on the cruisecritic.com website, and within a few minutes another cruiser on the same May 6th PM train said she had been called and told that ALL of the May VAC-SEA trains were affected ... gotta love Amtrak!

Now we're worried as to how soon we need to line up in VAC so that all 3 of us can sit together. We're also thinking of cancelling our bc seats on May 9th, as there may not be 3 seats together as the train does start in VAC .... just when you think you have everything worked out!

Okay, I just got a call from Amtrak, as I have a reservation on 510 in late March from SEA to VAC. I had a BC ticket booked and they called to say they are switching to Superliners, so I would get a refund of my $19 for my BC seat. She mentioned they are doing some refurbs on the Talgo equipment. I didn't get details beyond that, so I guess that explains the sellouts in BC. The seats won't exist!
