How popular is the Cardinal with students at Purdue University?

Back when I attended Carnegie Mellon University, I frequently took the Pennsylvanian to/from home during school breaks. Now, a family friend has a high-school child who could choose to attend Purdue, and I would love to suggest that he take the Cardinal to/from Purdue, but I am currently reluctant to do so, primarily because of its inconsistent schedule east of Indianapolis.

Does anyone know how much of the Cardinal ridership at Lafayette, IN is comprised of Purdue University students?

I used to ride the Floridian and Cardinal and predecessor James Whitcomb Riley through Lafayette and they were both popular with Purdue Students. The Floridian was also popular with IH students even though it came through Bloomington in the middle of the night. I have not taken the Cardinal/Hoosier State through Indiana recently so I can't say for sure about now. When I attended IU from 1966-1971, I took Monon's Thoroughbred in the early 1966 year and in 1967 yr until Sept when it was discontinued.

:hi: Not sure if you know but The Hoosier State, a Coach only Train (#850/#851) runs between Chicago and Indy Only on the 4 days a week that the Cardinal (#50/#51) doesn't run! (The Card is a Three Days a Week Train in each direction!) Ive only ridden the Cardinal in the Summer but do remember that when we stopped in Lafayette that some students did get on/off the Train, I'm sure it is very Popular @ the end of the Semsesters, during holiday periods and during Spring Break! Of course the Cardinal is VERY Popular year round due to the shortage of Seats and Sleepers(Only One!), so it is usually High Bucket (Higher Price)and SOLD Out lots of days! Normally the Cardinal is Late to Very Late on the way East to WAS/NYP, seems to do better going East into CHI! The Hoosier State seems to have a better OTP Record between CHI and Indy! Ive ridden the Hoosier state to CHI when there were Lots of Students aboard since it leaves in the Morning and arrives into CHI in the morning! In the other direction to INdy it leaves @ night and arrives into Indy very Late (same as the Cardinal!)

The reason I asked about the Cardinal specifically is because this person would be traveling to/from New York (I also traveled to/from there when I was in college). If this person's family decided to move somewhere west of Indianapolis (e.g. Chicago), then I could mention the Hoosier State.
