Wasn´t on the LSL leaving CHI on the 16th or the 17th. i was on the LSL on the 16th and had a heritage diner and saxman missed his connection to the lsl on the 16th thanks to a late texas eagle 22 so he took the LSL on the 17th out and no 8400. is it running down south to thaw or stored for the winter?

Back in July it was on a display train along with the great dome and a viewliner sleeper at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer. I was kind of surprised to see it not in revenue service during such a peak travel month.

You know, I have to wonder, if the wintertime goal is to rotate the LSL sets through to Silver Service for the cars to have a chance to thaw, why is the diner exempt from that rule?

When the Lake Shore Limited equipment is rotated south. The LSL pick up a extra lounge due to the fact they do not want to take the train set off the 480 power. So pulling the Dinner off just to keep in a cold environment would go be a issue and a lot of extra work. When the new cars come on line, maybe then rotation of equipment may end, but for a test car of the interior equipment not going to happen.

The cooking equipment and crew training for the 8400 differs from the Heritage Diners. If it was sent down to Miami, it would most likely be deadheading. Not to say it can't happen in a less-desireable situation, but very, very highly unlikely.

8400 did make an appearance down South last year. I would know I took a picture of it. It was a deadhead.

It was on the Silver Meteor. I remember hearing word on here it was going south and watching it from My Ex GF's apartment as it arrived into PHL. By the time it arrived it was almost dark. So no photos. :( But when they were speed testing it out of PHL I managed to get some shots of it at Penn Coach Yard. http://acela150kid.rrpicturearchives.net/archivethumbs.aspx?id=72181

Was it going south for a display or part of the LSL consist rotated on to the Silver Meteor?
I have no clue why it went South. I was assuming for the maintenance crews to get familiar with it, but Viewliner II cars will not arrive until 2014, so I really have no idea why it was on the train.

It could have been that Amtrak was sending it down for some event to show off the car. It also could be that it went down for maintenance. Hialeah yard in Miami is home base for all Viewliner cars. All work on Viewliners, save major overhauls done at Beech Grove and minor fixes done at endpoints, is done at Hialeah.

I missed seeing it from the outside when it passed through Orlando today, but I was fortunate to be among the first to dine in it on LSL on its maiden journey in October 2011. Thanks for the photos. I am trying to figure out your location.

Missed it going down. Well, I guess I didn't want to see it as I would have to be out and about at 4:30 AM... ACK. BUT, I do want to see it on its return. Please post when it heads back up North!
