When I ride a Superliner I that still has carpeted everything I think: Suddenly its the 70s again, crank up the Disco!
Could be worse.

Could be the interior of a DC Metro car.

If you think hard enough, you might even be able to picture someone in a white jumpsuit or a t-shirt berating the Ayatollah.

Also the rehab Is have upgraded bathrooms that have faucets with handles instead of the push to spray levers, shower with a door instead of a curtain and rooms with digital lighting and controls!
From my experience, it seems like not all of the refurbed Superliner Is have all of the above - some seem to have been more "refurbished" than others. The one that bothers me is that the digital lighting seems random - most of the refurbs have a brushed metal panel where the plastic panel & light switches used to be, but some still have the old incandescent (?) lights, & some have LEDs.

Ouch! I rode the Metro for many a moon in the 70s and 80s! This is spot on!

You are correct sir!,The inconsistency is Amtrak's middle name!

Okay, gang, I'll be the first to admit that I'm just not into knowing which model of sleeper I'm in at any time, but I will say this: whatever change came about sometime after 1980 was a definite plus in terms of quietness. I rode a sleeper on one of the Silvers around 1980. The interiors were light brown and tan, as I recall, and were all metal. Everything rattled and buzzed for the entire trip. I had to stuff every bit of toilet paper into every door just to abate the noise. It was so bad that I begged my company to get me a plane ticket home (and I really HATE flying...).

The combination of plastic and carpeting was a big improvement. No question, carpeting is impossible to keep clean, though. I just think about other things.

apparently a guest was looking for this thread. Here it is.

BTW, I personally like the refurbished Superliner 1's.

We were lucky, I guess, to have both sleepers on our trip to Reno.

Going out our bedroom was nice.

Coming home our bedroom was old. The carpet everywhere and the shower curtain. I wondered how clean the whole bedroom was.

Was not surprised when the toilets quit working. Our vent wouldn't close, a nice surprise was when our attendant came with duct tape and a towel to close the vent off! We loved him.
