Well Union Pacific announced the schedule and ticket prices for their inaugural excursion with the Big Boy. For this one you might need to sell your first born.

For the one way trip from Ogden, UT to Evanston, WY a coach seat is running for $3,000 dollars with a dome seat running at $5,000. Both engines will be double-heading which should be quite the sight with sixteen plus matching cars behind them.

The trip runs May 12th, 2019. Tickets on sale on Monday. For more information see: https://spike150.org/train-excursio...IgU8em75FeuVnLxPbI0DMJz5i-qlLHNeSabsGj-bUTY-k

That's approaching some of the Luxury Trains in the World Territory! Wow!!

You have to get to Ogden on your own and take a *bus* back from Evanston to Ogden? Oy.

I don't know who the market for this is, but it sure isn't me. Not even slightly interested.

For a two hour ride that is on the top side of luxury trains I'd say.

The $10,000 - $15,000 rides are for a week with gourmet food in spectacular Diners and with superb sleeping accommodation, not 7 hours in a seat.

If they bring it down to South Texas I'd probably stop long enough to watch it pass me by. That's about as much interest as I have at that price. I've visited Europe and Asia for less than UP's brief joyride in the middle of nowhere.

It would be a unique trip to take particularly with a Big Boy locomotive and being able to ride in UP Heritage cars.

When I was very young, PRR used steam locomotives on the Columbus-Chicago route (The Ohioan, I recall the train was called.) I still remember smelling the smoke from the locomotive.

But, the price to pay for this trip is far more than I would pay just for nostalgia.

That’s a pretty insane price. I loved riding the frontier days trains, the UP heritage cars are great but for that price I’d just assume fly over to England and ride the Jacobite, Flying Scotsman, and Bluebell Raileay and probably still have enough leftover to take in a West End Show! Ha

My thoughts exactly Crescent. I think I’ll just fly to Germany. I think I can ride three steam excursions, get hotels, and a flight. There would probably be some left over for food too.

For $3000, that two-hour tour better come with a bottle of Chateau Lafite, endless cheese and fruit platters, access to a hot tub, and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

The $5,000 dome seats were sold out before 1020 AM Mountain time today twenty minutes after they sold. However coach seats are still available for the incredibly low price of $3,000 a person.

I can't stop laughing at imagining this... "And here's your Corgi, thanks for riding" and here's your Corgi" I feel like an entire SNL skit could be made out of that! ha

Like this, but a slightly different theology.

I'm actually surprised the coach seats didn't sell out just as fast. I thought I was splurging when I paid $3-500 for the Frontier Days Trains behind 844! ha.

Here's the thing... the "Big Boy" hasn't even moved on it's own yet. Sure it will be in the consist along with the #844 and at least 1 diesel helper. Am I willing to pay $3,000 just to ride behind a Big Boy? No. IF the Big Boy was the only locomotive in a consist and the ticket was guaranteed (meaning if the Big Boy is substituted you get your money back) then I would consider it. Of course that's just me, everyone has their own wants and for some this will be worth the money.

You know on Broadway, there used to be a deal where anyone's name that was listed above the title of the production, you could get your money back or reschedule if they weren't going to appear the night of your ticket. I think that's how it should be for some of these train excursions... I suppose most people don't consider #4449 as important as Tom Hanks but some of do! ha.
