Palm Springs Station updates after the derailment

I am starting a new thread because I believe these events from the past few days warrant a new topic. Mods, if you would rather me just keep this in the post about the derailment, let me know.

-Sunset Limited is bypassing Palm Springs still. Saw it blow by there this morning without stopping.

-I noticed a lot of construction equipment there yesterday. It was all parked. Nothing happening.

-Today after work I went up to the station to pass the time......here's where it gets interesting......

There was a lot of construction going on the tracks. I stayed well out of the way. Yet still got yelled at by the workers. A worker walked up to me and told me the following (It should be not that he was NOT a UP employee but was a contractor):


-That the station was closed ( I asked why there wasn't a sign and he said that "we don't need one")
-That I was on federal property and he was going to call federal agents on me if I didn't leave
-That I was wearing red near the tracks which was against the rules
-That Union Pacific owned everything
-That the Federal Government owned everything
(I really should have asked him which it was)

I then threw it back at him

-So when will this be fixed so that trains 2 and 1 can use the station again?
-What is Amtrak doing to replace service to Palm Springs?
-What's the plan for all of the other issues

He tried to say "I can't tell you any of that, it's classified......" Then he said that Union Pacific was suing Palm Springs because of the sand. I could tell he had no idea what he was talking about so decided to mess with him a little more before I left. I did get out of him that Amtrak was using Indio temporarily.

Fun day. I probably should have asked if he knew what the subdivision was... Or who originally built the railroad..... I also probably should have asked him if Union Pacific was so upset about sand, why did they buy the line from Southern Pacific in the first place.....

Anyways, just a heads up about the updates. So Amtrak using Indio as a temporary replacement to Palm Springs. Hopefully nobody was planning to railfan there the next few days. Haha.

That's pretty funny. IF you could, please do get a video of them stopping at Indio. I'd love to see the process. Is there a platform they're using at the old station or something?
