Thanks Josh. I was glad to see some pics of the new Viewliner II. I am booked on the Star in a Viewliner II roomette (at least I was led to believe so) and looking forward to seeing the new equipment. Did you mind the remote lavs? What about the shower? I have never showered on a train but would like to try it this time. Amtrak released a new menu scheme in October 2021 and the choices have improved somewhat. Still no traditional dining but we are getting there. I am going to try and eat in the dining car at least for dinner as I am adamant about having that experience. Breakfast I make take in my room as I will detrain shortly after I eat. I have been to NYC numerous times on a train but never in a sleeper as we have a day train from North Carolina to NYC and never get to experience the Met Lounge. NYC being what it is if I have any layover, like when I do in DC, it is not hard to find something to do.

Good reports, I enjoyed all the pictures you took.

Two notes: The diagram attached in the first report seems like a VI; the room across from the shower looks to be a roomette (for the SCA?).

And, it's more likely you were being pulled by two P42's on the Silver Service south of WAS. Amtrak, AFAIK, has about 15 P40 DC locomotives, the rest are P42s. I believe the remaining P40s' were upgraded to match the specifications of the P42s.

Are you allowed to book the ADA compliant room when you are otherwise not in need of it? I am leaving it as a question and not an opinion. Reading your reports remind me of the mails I received from my friend from Italy its more emotional than the drier business like writing I expect from Midwesterners.

If the Rooms are not booked within 7 days of Departure, they are available for anyone to book, however ADA eligible Passengers do receive Lower Room charges due to their disabilities, along with a Companion if required.

I booked the ADA room because I am disabled so I was guaranteed. Amtrak says you can book but you have to call them directly and ask if you are able to book. Normally, it's open to public as long it's available within 7 days, not 14.

Yeah, it's really same but the only difference is the ADA room (They moved toilet on other side) and most of rooms are pretty much same just little changes so that's why I posted there. The last roomette is now storage, the SCA room normally is in room #4.

Indeed, we were pulled P42's and they are old, I hope we will be using new Chargers in late 2022/2023.
