THANKS for posting this URL. While it may be a mudane trip for others, I found it really interesting. It's been years since we have visited NYC and ridden the subway which is one of the more interesting parts of our trip.

I noticed a new member said he was an MBTA motorman. Didn't say whether it was heavy, light, or trolley.
Yeah I noticed it too.

However, the NY MTA Subway Operator that @Bob Dylan is thinking of is a very long time member and is not very active in terms of postings here. I guess he is too busy driving subway trains and sleeping at odd hours. He has been on several OTOL and AU Gatherings in the past before he got the job at NY MTA.

Love the NYC subway. My son didn't. I do wish that the stations were fully enclosed and climate controlled. Whatever happened to the British guy who became boss then was supposed to upgrade the whole system?

Oh - I wiki'd it. Andy Byford. Turns out Cuomo defunded much of his very popular initiatives and reduced his involvement, so he quit.

Did any of his efforts get completed?

Byford's departure was a major loss to the system.

I think one of his ideas was to put public-facing station managers in charge of a group of nearby stations, and have them regularly roam the stations to connect with riders. I don't know whether that continues.

London is lucky to have him now. But they don't need him as much as NYC did. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but they are a pretty well oiled machine.

Byford was the transit head in Toronto before leaving for the NYC job. The system has floundered since his departure.

It's one thing to get the planning action axed, but to have everything in proper place then unable to maintain it isn't on him. That's bureaucracy at its worst.
