Amtrak just announced that the NEC is temporarily suspended because of a NS derailment at Aberdeen.

If anyone has any information on how bad this is, please post it. The wife is supposed to take 91 tonight.

Maybe it'll get through there or maybe they'll start the train out of Washington.

Think I read 20 coal car overturned. Happened before 5 am, so hopefully at least one track will be cleared by the time 91 goes through.

Yep, just read from an Amtrak employee that they canceling anything below Philly. They're even cancelling <some> trains headed north from south of WAS. Guess it will depend on whether they have any equipment for 91 in WAS.

According to Amtrak service advisories crescent and Star will run as normal but palmetto canceled and Carolinian will basically run as a Piedmont today - only Raleigh - Charlotte.
So it would seem that they think they will have some capacity open for use by the derailment a little later in the day.

Reservations must be flooded... have been on hold for over two hours due to a cancellation of CZ on a trip next May. Derailment on NEC has Amtrak res paralyzed. Rescheduling always difficult when Amtrak makes changes... guess I'll try calling next week sometime.

Amtrak has done the unthinkable! They have managed to mount a self inflicted DDOS attack on themselves, and while at it also manage to get a whole bunch of potential travelers in May to possibly cancel their trips unnecessarily. Of the causes, only the NS derailment is one over which they had no control. The rest ... well ...

Poor attitudes, inefficiencies, leaderless leadership, oh my... what can I say???

Just received my 'Select Executive' card... no luggage tags and ripped packaging...

What else can I say??? 12,000 points will get you a $100 gift certificate for Fairmont Hotels and Resorts which can be used under program 'terms and conditions.'

Hmmm... guess 'I've arrived!'

This poor girl is apparently traveling broke. Sucks, but she has a lot to learn..........

How does this affect 92? I’m leaving Tampa today, and will arrive in Philadelphia tomorrow evening. Just concerned..

From the looks of things, you should be fine arriving in Philadelphia tomorrow, unless of course someone pulls yet another rabbit out of the hat between now and then.

This is what it says…

Amtrak has a lot to learn about the lives of customers being effected by this. But... like the customer service rep I talked with a few days ago... "We appreciated your business but unfortunately are unable to do anything... da da da da... I'm so sorry but that's about it."

Not!

Just Googled Amtrak Alerts and go this. I guess if you can't get through to an agent you can at least find out what's happening. Their website also has information under 'Service Alerts and Notices' but doesn't seem to get updated as often...
