Sad to see this.

Like any other city once there is a perception that transit is unsafe it takes a long time to win back trust.

🥺 I havent been in Edmonton in 20 Years, but when I was there it was a Clean,Safe City a long way from anywhere except Calgary.

The OPs point about losing confidence in Public Transportation is true, but as we know things can be turned around, the Best Example being the Subway System in New York which was really scarey in the 70s and early 80s.

I browse the subreddit for Edmonton and almost daily there are mentions of the atrocious finds/stories on the LRT. I do hope and think the new Valley Line section will be better and change some opinions. This weekend they had 2 LRV's on display at two stations to help familiarize them with the public. I do hope they have some new security features.

And even back then, I rode the subway a good deal and had no problems. Of course, the grafitti-covered cars were a real downer.

Curious how people obsess about these incidents on transit and say nothing about the numerous car crashes that happen at the same time.

My experience also. I remember in particular a trip to NYC in the mid seventies with my mother and cousin from England, insisting we ride the IRT from our hotel near Columbus Circle to Penn Station. It was totally graffitied which shocked by cousin more used to the London Underground, but it was fast and safe and we avoided the "come on from the [streetwalkers] on Seventh Avenue" 😀
