48 tonight just got cancelled due to unexpected track closure. From Amtrak tweets.

Lakeshore Limited Train 48/448 which was due to departed Chicago (CHI) on 7/28 is canceled due to unforeseen track closures. Please call 1-800-USA-RAIL for reservation assistance.

Someone on Facebook said it was a leaning building near the tracks

Wow, everything west of Albany! I assume that means the Maple Leaf as well even though it's not mentioned.

It is also stopping the Burlington inaugural, and Empire Service. It is a major issue. Hopefully inspections will show it will not collapse onto the right of way before a safety plan can be devised/implemented.

Do you know where this leaning building is? (And indeed this seems very, very problematic.)

I THINK this is the building that they say is ready to collapse (based on something I saw on Facebook)

If it is indeed a structural issue, this does not look like a quick fix.

If it is going to be torn down, I wonder how long it will take to get the permits. Hopefully the permits are already in place.

I feel really badly for the Ethan Allen's return to Burlington, Vermont. I was at the station on Wednesday and everything is set to go.

Hmm... when I put in a booking request it shows a bus for the entire route between Burlington and Albany.
Maybe it's just today's "special" train that will go to Sarasota Springs - you know dignitaries, etc being on the train. ;)

LSL's are currently cancelled. They would have to bus from stations where they can turn the trains
Apparently LSL is running between Chicago and Cleveland. I wonder why it is not running at least upto Buffalo since we know that it is possible to turn a train in Buffalo. When there was a massive derailment near Amsterdam they turned the LSL in Buffalo and we were brought from NYP to ALB by a Empire Service train and then bused to Buffalo to continue our journey to Chicago.

I am almost certain that if it is a long term thing they will be able to turn a train around SDY and just bus bridge between SDY and ALB. Let us wait and see how this unfolds.

Where do you see this? Amtrak tweeted last night that 48(28) was cancelled, and this morning that 449(29) was cancelled (though the tweet was a bit vague on 49 leaving NYP - perhaps it’s running a stub to ALB). It seems the Maple Leaf is running stub trains - saw one running to ALB and one in Canada that seemingly terminated at NFS (but nothing from VIA confirming that). Would hate to have planned a trip from points west of SDY to Burlington for the inaugural run of that train - while there’s a bus bridge for the Ethan Allen, the same can’t be said for the Lake Shore Limited (and even running to CLE or BUF wouldn’t help in that regard). Glad I didn’t do that…

One can purchase a ticket on Ethan Allen on Saturday from Burlington to New York or vice versa. Folks at the inaugural have been told that the plan is to bus bridge the EA between Saratoga and Albany.
