    Auto train: Ford F150 pickup?

Quick update - problem solved. I called AGR and they modified my reservation from "oversized vehicle" to be "two standard" vehicle spaces, and they noted the Ford F-150 in the record. Prior to my call they had me listed with our Buick Enclave and the oversized vehicle space on the train. It was...

    Auto train: Ford F150 pickup?

Heading off to Florida on the AT this Saturday... I have a 2021 Ford F-150 Super Cab, which has the half doors that open backwards (second row), but also a 6'5" bed. It says online that my truck has a 231 inch length and the Auto Train has a 218 inch limit for a single large vehicle. I did pay...

    Carolinian Questions

They keep the car and bathroom clean. In the past (pre-COVID) they would roll a drink cart down the aisle every two hours or so, and offer soft drinks, juice and bottled water. Much like the ones on the airlines in coach. And I believe they offer you a newspaper. By having one attendant...

    Carolinian Questions

I recall four seat booths at the head end of the BC car on the Carolinian. Another nice perk is a dedicated car attendant.

Silvers Going Back To Daily Service 6/7/21

It must be a glitch. I see now it works fine when you use TPA instead of SRA (Sarasota). Before booking I always like to search availability (maybe check the day before, after, etc,) to see what the rate may be for a bedroom versus two roomettes for two people. And one day can be much higher...

Silvers Going Back To Daily Service 6/7/21

Just wondering... I was looking into booking a trip on the Silver Star from Sarasota, FL via bus to TPA to RVR (Richmond) next February (Sunday 2/6/2022). It only offers me the Meteor via a bus to Orlando.. Is the Star returning to daily service? I can book the Star on Saturday, February 5th...

    Parking Tips for Alexandria, VA?

That's my backup plan - National Airport Long term. But the hotels near DCA in Crystal City are actually cheaper. And I saw on the Facebook forum version someone mentioned $15 a day at the Alexandria station (Pay to Park). I might just park at the station since it would end up being about $60...

    Parking Tips for Alexandria, VA?

Four nights / five days. Is there somewhere close to the Alexandria station that has a reasonable overnight fee? In the past I would usually find a spot at the station, but I thought I saw some "One Hour Parking" signs the last few times I was there. I'm guessing they ended the "first come...

    AGR res computer mess up

One of my first point trips after the new program and rules took place, was like yours.... I booked a bedroom to Chicago. Should have been around 18,000 points ($550 or so) and it was only around 8,000 points. It never made any sense to me. But it certainly helped to make the transition away...

    Is this a good deal?

Normally 20,000 points = $600 towards an Amtrak ticket. So if you spend $565 and net 21,195 you are purchasing more than 20,000 points and spending just $565 on the purchase. So yes, it's a good deal.

A First For Capitol Limited (low bucket Family BR)

BTW - I just booked a Cardinal Bedroom (with two passengers) for a total rail fare of $478 from Manassas, VA to Chicago. Is this some kind of a new ultra low fare on the Cardinal. It shows up on a few dates in January, February and March of 2018. I don't recall seeing any bedroom options under...

    Menu Changes (October 2017)

We really enjoyed the new menu on our recent Silver Meteor trip. I had the Land & Sea, and my wife had the Salmon. It was really good. And we dined in style in a sparkling new Viewliner diner. What an amazing dinning car. Especially at dinner - just before sunset.

    Mystic CT restaurants

There is the "S & P Oyster Company". We ate there years ago... I believe it was on the water, or as I recall - located on a narrow river or tidal channel in the downtown area. And it was close to the Mystic Amtrak station. At that time is was "the place to eat" in Mystic, CT. So it's been around...

    What's the penalty (for cancellation)?

I have success in the past by rebooking a new trip and utilizing the points from the cancelled reservation - and I'm not sure if it actually has to be the same itinerary. As I recall, I called AGR and I mentioned we would like to book a trip, and cancel a current AGR reservation - and we would...
