Actually, Texas' population is about 30 million. Top four metros, DFW,Houston,San Antonio, and Austin, total around 19 million. But because of gerrymandering the rural areas control the large cities in the legislative arena.
While planning a Labor Day trip to the Hill Country, I came across another very small Texas railroad museum in Llano. At least they are ambitious (and seemingly dedicated) in restoring the railroad legacy of this part of Texas. Watch their video for a nice 5-mile rail trip through the area that...
Today, June 24, the Texas Supreme Court decided that Texas Central Railway is indeed a railroad under Texas law and has eminent domain authority. However, the railroad is in arrears in property taxes and its CEO has resigned. Quite confusing what might happen next.
Some small town railroad museums in Central Texas:
Central Texas Rail Heritage Center (Flatonia)
New Braunfels Railroad Museum
Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center
James H. Long Railroad Park and Museum (Smithville)
Burton Railroad Depot and Museum
Elmendorf Heritage and Railroad Museum.

Well, their website does mention this in the "Joy of the Journey" section: "Choice of service levels, with quiet, work-friendly cabins and food and beverage options to fit your needs and budget."
I was wondering why when I try to schedule a trip from NYP to WAS it gives me the Long Distance trains as well as the NEC and Acelas. The posted schedules indicate that these trains only allow boardings at WAS.
Here in Texas the busses based in Mexico are much preferred. From San Antonio you can reach almost any city in Mexico on a clean nice bus for a very reasonable fee. I made a trip to Monterrey and Saltillo and back about five years ago. There were at least 5 different bus lines, meaning lots of...
Actually UP did give approval for the Flatonia stop in 2017, of course with some conditions. When I was there for Czhilispiel last October, it didn't look like much had happened but they are planning to use the old depot, which had been converted to a police station, once again. I just don't...
Doing this again this year! I could not believe how many people were there in 2018. This year they are even having a small ceremony to mark the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike.

A nice new train station being built in Grapevine for this rail.

Sure doesn't look like the rest of "train-hating" Texas. If only San Antonio or Austin could have done something like this years ago! And don't even mention the poor excuse that acts...
DA is correct. Having lived in both Austin and San Antonio, I'm amazed that San Antonio has so few drainage intakes on its streets. Water hitting the ground pretty much keeps on a street it finds its way above ground to a creek or HUGE drainage ditch.
After Austin had its horrible flood of...
It seems that only two states actually have an official language other than English: Hawai'i and Alaska. Alaska in fact has 20 other co-official languages. Of course the territories have Spanish, Chamorro, Samoan as official languages.
