I wonder if the renewed rule will allow exceptions for passengers in sleeping cars with the door shut. I don't have a problem with wearing a mask when moving about the train etc., but if I have to keep the curtain shut when unmasked that would ruin the trip, especially if it is a long one...

If your mom qualifies as handicapped (probably could get a doctor's letter about her mobility issues) then how about using the handicapped room on the lower level? Or, the family room that has ample seats (no bathroom) but bathrooms nearby.

The line via Baton Rouge leaves the direct NOLA line at Hammond. It is quite a bit longer in mileage as well as having lower speed limits. It is a safe bet that an Amtrak detour would cost extra hours and quite a bit of money. The long term solution is for CN to build a replacement bridge.

They do, but my impression is they are not 'dedicated' Thruway buses, but rather regular Greyhound runs that have through ticketing with Amtrak. If I am right, I would prefer to fly to my train versus a long Greyhound ride (and I speak from experience).

Amtrak trains leaving after Saturday morning (e.g. City of New Orleans) are listed as "sold out" until Tuesday. I wonder if this actually means they may not run due to the storm.

Yes merkelman06 is correct; I don't know why the website just lists short term parking, but about a year and a half ago I left my vehicle there for about 10 days and had no issues.

The police precinct did in fact move out, but Amtrak still has employees at the station, and there is still long term parking there. When I catch the train there I leave my vehicle locked up by the platform. Always make sure nothing is visible in the car(no charging cords, change, valuables...

Does anyone have any experience with the Meridian, MS Amtrak station long term parking? We are looking to drive there and ride the Crescent to New York sometime. Amtrak says there is long term parking, but it would be nice to hear if someone has knowledge of it or has used it.
