St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

Amtrak can’t provide reliable service on current routes for many reasons and those reasons change by the month. Expecting reliable new services to start any time soon isn’t going to happen.

    What should Amtrak change?

That actually may be closer to reality if Congress doesn’t get a more appropriate BOD, than the current nominees and chairman. I think congress is realizing they don’t have as much control over the national network considering the appropriation it gets. They shouldn’t have to mandate things...

Rail for Less: a fare checking site

It’s better than Amtraks site if your trying to find a low(er) fare.

Gardner's statement on House budget proposal

With all the hoopla about the NEC centric board, the holds on nominations, demands for improvements to the National network, etc. Why would Coscia start up with this language that’s reminiscent of 2018? My bet is they (the BOD and Gardner) were hoping the House would agree and suggest some or...

Fare Buckets - and when do they increase/decrease?

Via is a first class operation, Amtrak is not. Via has true sales and off season fares. Amtrak does not.

Analysis of the Gardner/Harris May '23 train rides, intentions, speculations

Unfortunately, I think it’s a set up for these trains discontinuance with the House poised to cut Amtrak funding as soon as this week. We all know these 3 trains are Amtrak managements least loved trains. The comments are earily similar to Andersons comments after riding the Coast Starlight and...

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

Pathetic summer consists again, the same or possibly worse than last summer. Definitely no significant improvement over last year. Was there a net gain from Beech Groove? I know a handful of cars came out of BG, but at the same time other cars were parked. Begs another question to me. What did...

Analysis of the Gardner/Harris May '23 train rides, intentions, speculations

I find the “less known routes” comments very troubling. Those 3 trains were very well traveled/popular prior to Anderson/Gardner/Coscia dismantling them with shorter consists, flexible dining, removal of lounge car (Eagle) and killing off Tempo. Tempo is a head scratcher to me.

Analysis of the Gardner/Harris May '23 train rides, intentions, speculations

For this of you that follow “Come ride with me” ( a senior on board employee) on face book he’s got a lot of photos this week with Gardner and Harris on the Cardinal, Eagle and possibly the Sunset. This guy is one of Amtraks best!

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Are Acela first meals better than Flexible dining for those who are familiar with both? I keep thinking that’s a workable solution to the non traditional dining trains in all aspects quality, labor, etc. But here it is 4-5 years later and it doesn’t seem like it was ever thought of as a...

    Amtrak Appropriation for FY23

Amtrak wants to take money from long distance trains to fund NEC. As with everything it’s vague but as always it shorts the long distance network. “The document contends that a higher percentage of those funds than Congress had intended should be transferred to the Northeast Corridor from the...
