Amtrak's own hypothetical national track infrastructure discussion

Let's get our terminology straight. Trains are vehicles, railroads are infrastructure. I think that you mean: "125MPH capable railroad". This is a common mistake in terminology made by the mainstream news media.

All About the Portland MAX (and associated Transit)

Is there any substance to what I was told about the demise of Portland's streetcar system by the Lady Mayoress of Portland, Dorothy McCullough Lee? I remember reading that she hated streetcars so much that she forbade Rose City Transit from even bringing in a PCC car as a demonstrator.

    Tennessee Passenger Rail improvements

From what I understand, the ex-PRR line is actually in decent shape because CSX uses this line into Louisville. Upgrading and modifying the Cardinal's route to a 6 hour or less running time will benefit future service on the Cardinal's route.

One car design that I would like to see is a true cafe-lounge car with a food prep and serving area that would have one end enclosed and a proper arrangement of grill, convection and microwave ovens for better tray meal offerings. This type of car would have the same utility and flexibility of...

Adding frequency to Long Distance (LD) service

I have had a letter to the Plain Dealer published about splitting the Lake Shore into two separate trains. The CHI-NYP train would have a 3PM departure from Chicago, Cleveland at 10PM, Albany at 6AM and New York at 9AM. CHI-BOS at the same present schedule except that the ALB dwell time is no...
