I'd imagine they'll have 95 clear before the train tracks. My first Auto Train experience included a 12-hr (weather) delay, where they ran out of food - at least we learned to pack our own on subsequent trips !
I'm already leaving work 1/2 early Thursday to get up there to make the most of our...
Well -- there is not really an opportunity to do that - this is my one window to get up to our vacation home in nearly a year. If the train doesn't happen, it'll be pavement all the way... :(
Thanks for that info - I don't visit here too often, but (after a year and a half - or so - with no train trips) we have the Auto Train booked out of Sanford on THURSDAY 8/31. I'm figuring there will be A LOT of trees down on the tracks on Wednesday (and overnight into Thursday morning). FINGERS...
Yep - I wouldn't imagine that they'd have any issues with a standard.
BTW, my wife talked me into taking the Skyline Drive route back a couple of years ago - man, I thought that would never end (didn't enjoy it, and never again)!
THANKS
I miss the chicken tenders (I'd bring honey mustard along for the trip). :)
It does look like the dining car has had an upgrade (have not eaten in there since pre-pandemic).
Any recent Auto Train dinner menus available? It's been over a year since we've been on the Auto Train and wasn't sure if much had changed. We usually end up getting to the station near the deadline, and often all the early dinner times are gone.
Is this still possible (w/5*8 U-Haul trailer)? I just called them and was told "no", but then again, I'm not sure that the person I was speaking to was knowledgeable. Either that, or they've changed policy.
My first thought was how long after the plane went down did the train come barreling through?
Perhaps they need to install some sort of alarm/panic button at crossings for such events (not only planes, lol). I'd love to have that contract!
I am SOOOOO glad we didn't hop onboard thinking they could make up for some of the 7 hours (ended up over 13 hours late).
Instead, we drove south 3 hours to Miami and boarded a cruise ship last minute. Popping the bottle of champagne in about 30 minutes for sail away. Nice to have options/plan...
Bailed on the trip plans... 7+ hours late last time I checked, not even in Sanford yet... no thanks.
Frustrating as hell (sums up many of my Auto Train experiences)
I checked in to see where 53 was, as this is the train I'll be catching northbound (52) tomorrow.
Since they're already 3 hours late, it's not looking real good for tomorrow.
Anyone know what's going on? (oddly, 52 just left Sanford a short while ago... they're both behind)
