    Viewliner Order in Jeopardy?

Easy, cowboy. "Thread after thread" means this one, and the one where it was first mooted. I guess you are technically right: that makes 2: the one where I brought up the topic, and the one I used as an example. Still, the term "thread after thread" implies redundancy, and we don't really...

    Amtrak to Long Island

VIA has started doing interline tickets in Montreal: http://www.viarail.ca/en/about-via-rail/media-room/latest-news/1790/26-april-2012-via-rail-canada-and-the-agence-metropolitaine-de-transport-announce-

Has anyone here ridden every Amtrak route?

I saw those (nicely) refurbished "Heritage" 44-seat coaches (with the "huge women's lounges") on the Lake Shore, the Broadway, and the Crescent. Someone told me that they had come from the UP (or maybe the Santa Fe?), but I (clearly) forget the details. This would have been in the late 70's /...

    Viewliner Order in Jeopardy?

I add my thanks to jls for the research. Now, AlanB, wouldn't the last 5 posts (and no doubt 20 more that stayed silent) been better off as "likes?" ;-)

    Southwest Chief #4

Then it doesn't really matter (much) how crowded the train is. The diner can handle a full load if the crew is professional. Granted, not a foregone conclusion....

Parisian drives car down Metro stairs

The good drivers do that... but they ruin it by texting, or gesticulating wildly, with both hands, into their cell phones. I'm always amazed that anyone survives even a week here.

    Philadelphia Trolley Line #15

I am 50 and clearly not from any neighborhood along Girard Avenue. I spend part of every year in Phila. I connect to and from the 15 regularly, from the Market-Frankford line, from the Broad line at Broad & Girard, from the route 57 at 3rd, from the route 47 at 8th, taking my little girls (5...

Parisian drives car down Metro stairs

I don't understand why this is newsworthy. We drive this way all the time. To paraphrase Dave Barry ("The Only Travel Guide You'll Ever Need"), "driving in Europe is just like driving in North America, except in Britain, where they drive on the left; in Italy, where they drive on the sidewalk...

Bid for 130 corridor bi-level cars is now out

Sorry, forgive my ignorance... what is "RPF?"

Anyone want to speculate as to when State of Michigan will acquire tra

I am American, born and brought up in the US, and a former Amtrak employee, SA on the Superliners out of Chicago. Yes, of course we can stop. Sorry to waste your time. But maybe others were interested...

Anyone want to speculate as to when State of Michigan will acquire tra

There is no point in worrying about keeping up with the neighbors. We all have different choices. But HSRail accomplishes something that no other means of transport does (including Superliners), and it does so economically, despite vast construction costs. America doesn't "need" electricity...

Bid for 130 corridor bi-level cars is now out

5 mph might be considered too small a small testing margin with which to build a safety case. SNCF uses 30 kph, for example.

Anyone want to speculate as to when State of Michigan will acquire tra

I like Shinkansens (I've never ridden one, but I am sure I would like them if I did). I like them because, per previous post, if I have to make the same trip 100 times in a year, I'm kinda into getting through it quickly. I have done NY - DC oh, 500 times? If you put a daily Superliner run...
