29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

Lol. To your point I'll add the #5 sign was commercially printed. Wasn't like someone drew a 5 on a piece of 8x10 paper with a sharpie.

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

@AmtrakBlue looks like our posts crossed paths :-) @Eric in East County sorry forgot to answer your other question. I don't remember if there were gates or signals. It happened so quickly. I had my head against a pillow and the window with my eyes closed when I heard the engineer sound the horn...

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

Oh boy. Well...we made it! While it didn't seem like any personnel on the Capitol cared about our connection they clearly did in Chicago. Here's how it went down... First as we neared the station we packed up and stood down by the door. We pulled into the station I'd say around 2:15. As soon...

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

Finally underway. The other train arrived 45 mins ago. But finally moving. Crazy bc were just gonna make, or miss, our CZ trip. We'll prob arrive around 2:10 is my guess. Several of us on the train are wondering if enough of us have the same CZ connection maybe they'll hold it?

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

Saw a conductor and asked for an update. Said the head conductor told him Were waiting for another engine, hopefully 30 mins out. Apparently the other train just towed us a short bit to clear the way. And left. Why not tow us the remaining 20 mins? This can't be the first time this has...

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

Hmmm. So not sure that's the plan anymore. Still no rescue. There's no sign of the other trains. And now I think we're waiting for another engine to be delivered. Sitting here on the tracks with no engine or power. our next train departs in 2 hours. What's worse is were 30 mins outside Chicago...

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

We were just told they still need to cut away dome damage on the engine before the remove it and back the other train up. He said it's train 371. No ETA but I still have hope. Sadly we just witness another passenger dressing down our SCA over the possibility of missing his connection. He...

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

Well spot on! They said the engine is too damaged to go on but another train is going to pull us behind them. Exciting! No ETA but the power has already gone off for a bit and now back on. So assuming that was the engine switch out?

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

Wow. Crazy story! We're unable to see anything at all. The last car of the train is empty and locked. They just came on and said they're waiting for the police to do their investigation and then to assess the engine for damage. Sounds like we'll be ok to make our connection. If no, though...

Embarking on 2,700+ Mile Cross-Country Trip

Hi all, First sorry for the typo. We're on the Capitol Ltd from WAS to CHI. Also you're right, those boards were used a few times. Not when ours left for some reason. The attendants were really nice and helpful in the WAS lounge. Just the lame food. So update as we're now 30 mins outside of...

29(7/25) hit a truck at grade crossing - now what?

We're currently on the Capitol Limited 30 mins outside of Chicago where we hit a semi at the crossing. We saw it happen, luckily it was just the back of the truck that spun around. Trailer flayed open. Truck wasn't flipped over. Drivers cab seemed OK and don't think anyone was injured. Can't...

Embarking on 2,700+ Mile Cross-Country Trip

Two things to report so far. Both about the lounges. PHL amtrak lounge was great. We learned right away that our business class tickets on the acela were not enough to get us Into the lounge. But the attendant was sweet and let us in bc of my son, she said :-) and the lounge experience was...
