What's to look into? They had WiFi that worked Jim-dandy on the CS until Dick Anderson came along and shut it off. Can there be much more to it than turning it back on? The rail cars I used to ride on were equipped for it. Yeah, "coming soon". You are misunderstanding. AFAIK they don't take...

"After five years and 3 LD Coach trips (and a slew of northeast trips) i ponied up and paid A LOT $$$ for a roomette CS Portland to LA. It will be worth it ! " From Portland to L.A. it will be worth it. You will hopefully get all of your prepaid meals in the grown-up dining car and you can take...

"I don't really think comparing sleeper prices to Southwest is really an apples to apples comparison - you're comparing an airline that still considers itself a low cost carrier to a premium first class service." Granted, but the premium fare is hard to justify if one only wants to go from...

"No-- $50 coach $80 business $303 Roomette $337 Bedroom I just checked for mid April" The fares I posted were correct for a travel date of April 2. "we were still able to get take out delivered to us." How did that work? What take-out franchise delivers to a train en route? "if the...

"$541 for a day trip? Is that for a roomette or a bedroom? " If I extend the lead time to May 28 I see a roomette available for $339, which is still high — more than double the business fare.

"Just rode this past weekend. No Wifi, but we had good LTE service for most of the trip (T-mobile). It did seems the our very full train was turning away Business Class passengers from the dining car. I'm sure staffing is a factor, but it could also be food availability." Was this on the...

Here are the fares for Train 11 SJC -> LAX: Coach: $122 Business: $152 Room: $541 Southwest Air will fly you there for $49 but you have to book many weeks in advance. Still, it's hard to fathom that an Amtrak room costs 11 times more than an airline flight and takes 10 hours vs. about 2...

As you know, sleeper passengers have priority at meals because they have already paid for their food. The last time it happened was in 2018 I think, I was traveling business class. They never took my dinner "reservation". They started seating the sleepers in the dining car. I entered the dining...

I should have mentioned that my last trip to SJC was in late October 2019, a few months before the pandemic. It sounds like WiFi is gone for good on the Coast Starlight. I can't imagine it was that costly to operate and that Amtrak is saving a pile of money by discontinuing it. Despite my...

As of spring 2022, is WiFi in operation on the Coast Starlight? When I first rode the Coast Starlight around 2016 - 2017 there was WiFi and the connectivity was pretty good (provided we weren't going through a tunnel). Around 2018 they shut off WiFi completely. In addition, when traveling...

    Food Problems on Coast Starlight

No reservations were taken or issued for lunch an hour or two after departing SJC. Several hours later, before dinner, attendant Val came running down the aisle calling, "dinner reservations" but did not stop and issue any before disappearing into the next car.  I don't know what it would have...

    Food Problems on Coast Starlight

I know I saw a sign at the snack bar about bringing food on board. Maybe I misread or misinterpreted it. The "value" coach fare from SJC to LAX on #11 is $95. Business class is $125. So what did I get for this $30 premium besides subdued lighting and an empty seat next to me? Maybe a bottle...

    Food Problems on Coast Starlight

According to one of the attendants, sleepers eat first on train #11 because they've already paid for their food in the ticket price. If the train runs out of food, which does happen, hope that they're not sold out of microwave Angus burgers at the snack bar. On Friday, December 7, 2018...

    Pacific Surfliner Costs

Go to the Amtrak web site. Enter LAX in "From" and SAN in "To". Tick "One-Way" and click "Find trains". The value fare is given as $37. Now click "Round-Trip" and "Find trains". The value fare is again given as $37. Must be an error on their web site.
