Second Norfolk train starting in March

Also in the media release: Looks like the second Norfolk train will be taking over the slot of 94/95, the current day train serving Newport News. Wonder what will happen to the schedules of 94 and 95...

Boarding 69 from lower level at NYP

Or you can ride an evening Empire Service train to ALB, spend the night there instead, and get a few hours more sleep before picking up the Adirondack. Plus, you can board an Empire from the lower level of NYP without issue.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Put the seat numbers on electronic displays and adjust them according to the direction the train is pointing. Voila—seat 1A is always front left and facing the same direction every time.

Maximizing Upgrade and Companion coupon- ideas welcomed

Upgrade coupons won’t get you into the sleepers. Just business class or first on Acela.

Questions About Acela Express Station Stops

Also note that the suburban Acela stops of BWI and MET are “directional,” favoring day trips from BWI to NYP and from MET to WAS. The weekday Acela schedules don’t really support a day trip in the opposite direction. As Triley said, ridership.

Pig follows man from Elyria, Ohio Amtrak station

Man complains to the conductor, “That pig can’t sit here, it stinks!” Conductor immediately recognizes the man and replies, “Don’t worry, Mr. Anderson. He’ll get used to you.”

Richmond, Va (RVR) Station Hours Have Been Altered.

The morning train from RVM has a different train number (96) on Sundays. Perhaps Amtrak forgot to enter a Keystone connection for 96 in Arrow.

    Northeast Regional Seating

My rule of thumb: for trains terminating in WAS, no problem getting a seat pair in BAL. For trains continuing into Virginia, no guarantees on a Friday or Sunday.

    NE Regional 21-day saver fares

Many NER saver fares that used to require a 14-day advance purchase now appear to require (an airline-industry standard) 21-day advance. Details here. We now have up to three different levels of saver fares between most major city pairs. For NYP-BOS, you’re now looking at $49 (21 day), $59 (14...

Why are fares for NE Regional sometimes cheaper for longer trips

NE Regional 14-day Saver fares for DC-NYC and NYC-Boston have been fixed at $49 since these fares were first introduced. Saver fares for other city pairs have risen proportionally, but that magic $49 price point remains. I suspect the reason is marketing. Amtrak can continue to advertise these...

    AGR soft landing intact

...and the soft landing remains intact for 2018. Went from Select Plus to Select, despite earning under 1000 TQPs.

    Acela NHV-WAS with points

Looks like Acela requires 50% more points during peak weekday travel times. Everything old is new again.
