    Food delivered to the train—ideas?

Sweet. I think we'll give them some business tomorrow.

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

Yeah, I love those Quaker Oats cups - although Maple & Brown Sugar is my go-to. Thanks for the help. I hope to pick up a few at the grocery store in Browning tomorrow, before heading to the GPK station.

    Food delivered to the train—ideas?

Ooh, Domino's sounds like a great idea - and that's right around lunchtime. Did they meet you at the platform, or in the station building? Wasn't sure how the conductors would feel about me leaving the platform.

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

We'll be taking the eastbound Empire builder from GPK on 8/6. Wondering if the cafe car would give me hot water for my instant oatmeal cup. Didn't know if that was a thing or not. Edit: We're traveling in coach - hence the need to fend for ourselves. :)

    Food delivered to the train—ideas?

We'll be taking the 8/6 Empire Builder from East Glacier to Chicago, in coach. Any recommendations for a station stop where we could realistically do Doordash or have a pizza delivered or anything? Obviously we plan to pack plenty of food and not count on anything...but I've always wanted to...

Rochester to NYC - Maple Leaf, Empire Service, or Lake Shore Limited?

This October, I'll likely be traveling from Chicago to Rochester - and then at some point taking a separate leg from Rochester to NYC for sightseeing. Obviously I'd be coming into Rochester on the LSL, but I see that ROC-NYP is a bit faster if I take the Maple Leaf or Empire Service. Any...

    Capitol Limited discussion

Nice. I don't think I've seen any of the Viewliner II equipment, but I imagine it's an upgrade. Are sleeper passengers usually allowed to hang out in the dining car between meal times? And for coach passengers, is there a cafe or any other kind of area with tables?

    Capitol Limited discussion

Debating whether to take the Capitol or LSL for an upcoming trip from Chicago to NYC. Is there currently no SSL on the Capitol? I've found conflicting info online.

    How to get seats together

I'll be traveling with a group of 4 in early August - Chicago to East Glacier round trip. We plan to do roomettes one way and coach the other way. (FWIW, we'll also be taking the Lincoln Service from Alton to Chicago.) Anyway, if we take coach from East Glacier, I was wondering what our...

    Transition Sleeper discussion

Okay, good to know there's a shower. I assume the seating area on the lower level is only for the crew members? I suspect there is only one roomette left because they had been sold out until the other day, when another one became available. But if an agent can put us together somehow, that...

    Transition Sleeper discussion

I'm going from Chicago to East Glacier in early August, and I see that my roomette is Car 732, Room 17. I've never been in a Transition Sleeper before so I was wondering about a few things: - Is there a shower in the car? (IDK if this diagram is accurate but I didn't see one: Amtrak Car...

    Baggage checking

Yeah, if need be I could drive to Alton or St. Louis and ask in person. I assume that the Lincoln Service wouldn't allow checked baggage, even if it's checking through to the Empire Builder? I'd be nice to avoid lugging it all on the train and having to stand in line to check in Chicago, but I...

    Baggage checking

Another baggage question: Can I check baggage from Alton to East Glacier, even if I'm taking the Lincoln Service from ALN-CHI? What if I checked it 24 hours beforehand - would it get put on the previous day's Texas Eagle? (Don't know if I trust the same-day Texas Eagle to make the connection...

    Texas Eagle Question

I used to sometimes opt for the Eagle from the ALN-CHI trip just so I could show friends the Superliner cars, but lately it seems the service and on-time performance have lagged quite a bit, so it's harder to recommend it. But still, it's the only Superliner that goes through STL. I haven't...

    Texas Eagle Question

I'm considering the Eagle for CHI-ALN next month. Wondering if the 1:45p-6:06p time would include lunch and/or dinner? (Even if it's flex meals.) Debating whether to spend the AGR points for the room vs. traveling coach. I'll be with 1 or 2 family members.
