Rocky Mountaineer in the Colorado Rockies

The key difference is single-level traditional cars vs. bi-level "Sightseer" style cars, as detailed above. Food has been included with both since they discontinued their basic service some years ago. There is no sleeping or private accommodation offered in any class. I believe in 2021 they are...

    Excellent point.

    Potential Detours

Which makes one wonder why most times instead of a reroute there's a cancellation... resistance from the hosts?

Thoughts on riding the LSL's BOS to ALB segment

Apologies to you both. The last time I took the LSL westbound it departed Boston after 4 pm. I was not aware of the more recent schedule.

Thoughts on riding the LSL's BOS to ALB segment

Right, but it will likely be dark after Springfield 90% of the year. I like the mountain scenery.

Thoughts on riding the LSL's BOS to ALB segment

The only downside of your route is that unless you do it around the longest daylight hours in summer, you'll miss the best scenery on the LSL route. That's why I advocated for the reverse.

Thoughts on riding the LSL's BOS to ALB segment

One of my favorite "triangle" trips involves this route. Drive to Buffalo and catch the eastbound to Boston (Back Bay). Stay overnight. Noon departure down the NEC the next day to NYP. Stay overnight. 10:30 Empire Service back to BUF. All legs can be done in Business Class very reasonably...

Why are subway tunnels lit, but railroad tunnels not?

Speaking of things that would likely not be built today! I had forgotten how long that tunnel is - and seeing how creepy and narrow the first set of single bores are when not viewed from a coach.

Why are subway tunnels lit, but railroad tunnels not?

Some are, some aren't - and that's referring to both types of tunnels. I would suspect some railroad tunnel locations - mountains in the middle of nowhere, for example - would be extremely costly to install lighting infrastructure. CN's tunnel under the St. Clair river between Michigan and...

Questions about travel from Orlando to Vegas, Niagara Falls, weekends, etc.

Look up Glenwood Springs, CO. Lots of participants here have gone there on Amtrak and there are reviews and pictures posted. I've been twice and would go again in a heartbeat.

Fortunately a lot of the affected aircraft appear to be stored already.

Yes, I'd been looking for confirmation of that. The first article I read only referred to the RR models, and as you know some G.E. engines (A-380 for example) are co-produced with Pratt & Whitney, so I didn't want to assume.

Many 777's with P&W engines have been grounded. Those with Rolls-Royce are still flying.
