College football fans reserve entire Amtrak coach

Hopefully they are traveling the day before, with the Crescent's recent OTP they likely won't be on time day of. Of course, even the day before there might be a plastic bag blowing across the tracks and Amtrak might cancel...

Mudslide in Westchester Co. affecting trains between Albany and NYC

Any wagers on how long it is before the homeowner sues the railroad for its trains causing vibrations which weakened the hillside and adversely impacted his property rights?...

    Crescent discussion

Will the Crescent south of ATL ever run again? Note to self, never schedule travel on this stretch when its summer and might be hot. Or, when its winter and might be cold. Or, when it's spring and might be closed for maintenance blitz....

Adirondack June '23 cancellation, and September restoration, state of Upstate NY service

The whole reason for the axel count cars to Carbondale is because their grade crossing signals won't trigger. Talk about treating the symptom and not the disease...

Adirondack June '23 cancellation, and September restoration, state of Upstate NY service

It is indeed. However, perchance they should be reminded that they like to do their business in the US, and we have balls and bats too. I mean, it'd be a real shame if some track inspection discovered a need for better signal infrastructure on the route of the CONO for them to have the...

Amtrak Solar Eclipse viewing April 8 2024

Hill Country is a little more scenic, and meteorologically speaking that time of the year it's a little bit more climatologically favored for fewer clouds. Doesn't hurt that it's also a little closer for me than DFW. ;) Honestly though DFW would be a better choice IMO if you're flying in...

Amtrak Solar Eclipse viewing April 8 2024

My plan is to drive from Houston as far as near San Antonio (east side) the night before, and get an early start to get into position in the hill country the next morning. Have a couple of pretty obscure destinations picked out already. The time of day (early afternoon) helps a lot.

Amtrak is finally coming to Scranton!

I would still go up to 84 and over if I were them, rather than having to chew through the city. If you're from the area, 209 ain't that bad. ;)

Amtrak is finally coming to Scranton!

I would imagine most people going Scranton to CT or Boston are on 84 than they are trying to grind the horror show above. ;)

    Sunset times along train line

You're making the potentially very large mistake of assuming the train is on time... which in the real world is often not the case.

    Hurricane/Tropical/Subtropical storm Nicole and Amtrak

NHC has Hurricane Warnings up, no way they don't call it a Hurricane whether it is or isn't. They want people off the beaches. That being said... this is no Ian. Unless you're drunk and wading into the surf to challenge Poseidon over dominion of the seas, you should be fine. ;)

    Rude Amtrak employees

Yup, but most people don't bother to. And actually, the fact that you CAN just adds to the confusion. If you see ALL position-related titles, you might think that looks kinda suspiscious, but seeing some NON-position-related titles mixed in just reinforces that perhaps the others really are...
