    Texas Eagle discussion

Based on Bob Dylan's response above the hole in the fence may have been repaired. I am tempted to drive over and check.

It's not that long a walk! Unless you follow the street, that is.

Help needed with long distance Amtrak trip planning

When you go to the "roomette" to secure it at the bottom of the box is the number of roomettes you want which defaults to "1". You can click on it and add a second - but not always!

Help needed with long distance Amtrak trip planning

Re: fares. We have found that booking two roomettes is almost always cheaper than booking a full bedroom and sometimes cheaper than the family bedroom because our second roomette is about 2/3 the price of the first one. Is that because we are seniors or is that true for everyone? Re...

Help needed with long distance Amtrak trip planning

Random thoughts: If you choose the Southwest Chief you get to ABQ mid afternoon. As mentioned above, the commuter train from ABQ to Santa Fe is an easy option. NM can be cold and snowy in the winter; especially in Santa Fe which is at about 7000 ft. altitude. If you snow ski, this is the way...

    Texas Eagle discussion

What Steve and Widfara wrote. There is no point in taking a flex dinner when anything you have at home or eat near the AMTRAK station in Austin is far superior. Anything. Complementary bad food is still bad food. Repeating: good food starts after San Antonio. You could take your...

    Ownership of Amtrak stations?

Worthy effort, to which I have nothing to add, but I look forward to the development of this information resource. Thanks.

    Riding Amtrak for fun?

Living on the TE, I think the western trip is great fun whether to EP, or Tucson, or LA, but the FtW - Dallas - Little Rock - St. Louis - Chicago trip is just - well, more comfortable than a plane or car if you have the time. The short trip from Austin to FtW is good when its good.

An Eaglete day trip gone wrong

Good grief, Bob, keep us posted. I rely on that station as do you. We were going to take a short trip to Ft Worth to visit the museums, etc., stay one night, but stuff intervened. Reading your Temple trip I am sort of glad we didn't.

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

From experience, 2 persons of average girth who like each other can sleep together in the lower berth of a full bedroom or family bedroom. If you have ever shared a twin bed as an adult these lowers are an inch wider. The roomette is impossible for 2 in one berth. My wife and I have mastered...

    Amtrak report on fiscal 2023

How do they account for the Eagle and the Sunset? I assume it is first based on which train was called for on the reservation, of course, but eastbound from LA terminating at or before San Antonio would have to be allocated somehow as would west bound beginning from or after San Antonio, correct?

Comparison of Amtrak vs. other transport mode

My wife and I just completed a 4000+ mile road trip. We like driving together. We get along famously. However, if we could have made the intinerary work on Amtrak we would have done so. When not in a hurry, and when the destinations are Amtrak locations, there is no comparable way to get to...

Canceling vs modifying a ticket bought with points

The new post 10/25/23 rules are supposed to be simpler, but I think they are not simple.

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Metro Lounge in DC has "modern" seats that are not so comfortable. There were very good attendants on my most recent journey. Last time I was in LA Metro Lounge the TV was set to something unwatchable. I asked the attendant if I could change the channel and she said she would change it. I...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

I stipulated "best" prepackaged because [I agree that] Flex is better than much that is offered on the freezer aisle. I think the best prepackaged meals I have been served by my daughter who doesn't cook are much better than the average frozen dinners, but I do not know which brands she favors...
