    ABB Scandi/Adtranz/Bombardier IC3 Flex discussion

LOL'ing at "the longest sauna in Sweden" comment, which, btw, is apparently absent in the Swedish version (will check more later on that).

Mexico's Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) project

Are they using like old Metroliners or Amfleets? Looks like they are buying a lot of second hand stuff from around the globe! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tren_Interoce%C3%A1nico I'll have to post later, but I've seen a proposal somewhere for Baja California rail!

    Chicago Union Station discussion

Nice photo journaling on these posts, but this one looks like you're sitting at a counter with some huge coffee mugs....

    ABB Scandi/Adtranz/Bombardier IC3 Flex discussion

I recognized those big black bumpers and hadn't realized that those had been tested (but it does bring back a vague recollection) - I've heard that they aren't the most reliable in Danish service or something (learned from a video watching someone taking them in DK - I think it was DSB - they...

Interesting US Passenger Rail Service Visualization Maps

Thanks for posting that, Jis! Fascinating maps. Really great network. My guess, if it happens, there would be a huge demand for additional 'local' infill in state supported and local/regional routes to connect and commute with. I'd quibble that there are a few places that, at that point, would...

NJ Earthquake affecting Amtrak and Transit 4/5/2024

Yes, Lake Michigan has been affected by seiches - several people died in one back in the, iirc, 50's.

Chicago South Shore & South Bend (NICTD) discussion (2023-2024)

Not quite: they no longer run in traffic lanes but in a separate right of way much like modern light rail.

NJ Earthquake affecting Amtrak and Transit 4/5/2024

That's too bad, It's really intriguing - would love to read more about the phenomenon.

Intriguing; do you have any further links for reading about this? Not finding anything readily.

Dreamstar overnight train between San Francisco and Los Angeles?

Wow! Neon (well, LED strip....)! Suspension Bridge! Is that the new bay crossing?

Chicago South Shore & South Bend (NICTD) discussion (2023-2024)

Interesting about another 15 minutes shaved with a relocation of the station within the airport - and eventual extension to downtown.

Can Private Railroads operate passenger service without government help?

This is probably way off topic (seems like we had one recently about schedules where it might have been more relevant) but... I'm reading a cozy mystery loosely set in the late '60's and mention is made of local stations being recently closed due to Dr. Beeching. The same author has a series set...

Chicago Metra Electric District (MED) speed increases?

I actually looked at photos to see the wire... Plus Amtrak won't need that.

Chicago Metra Electric District (MED) speed increases?

Isn't that track with the yellow arrow NICTD? It's double-tracked at Hegewisch and west to that image and it looks like there are wires over the tracks there to connect with MED.
