You spoke too soon. #7(20) is now stopped cold (pardon the pun) around Glasgow, MT due to a broken down BNSF freight train blocking the single track in that vicinity. Amtrak and BNSF are estimating around a 3 hour delay to fix this latest delay. Meanwhile #8(19) still in MN will arrive...
I see Amtrak cancelled #7 and #8 for today and I would expect for the next couple of days as well due to the cold? What a mess for the thousands of passengers of these trains. Will Amtrak try to accommodate all of these pax on later trains or just refund the money and tell them to find their...
Yes, both our car attendant and the Diner/Lounge person said we could have had our meal in our room. I do agree that the beautiful, shiny. new Diner did seem to be a wee bit of an overkill for our "boxed breakfast", but it was indeed a nice setting to enjoy our meal and the attendant was eager...
While we never like to arrive at our destination late, the fact that the crew went the extra mile to try to make everyone as comfortable as possible is a big plus. We were pleased to see how positive and friendly everyone on our latest EB journey was last week.
I got the distinct impression...
We enjoyed our breakfast box, coffee and juice in the dining car. A wee bit of a trek from our sleeper, which was at the very front of the train, but worth the walk!
My wife and I rode the LSL from CHI to ROC a couple days ago and were very pleasantly surprised by several things. Yes, we had heard that the meal service had changed to the "boxed" items, but a couple other "niceties" made our trip that much more enjoyable. First, our car attendant Natalie...
8(19) really got clobbered with the BNSF freight breakdown in Washington. Looks like it will be around 7 hours late pulling into CHI very late tonight.
I am currently on 8(16) and the conductor on this train shared with us that the BNSF dispatching for Central and Eastern MT has really been poor lately. We lost about 2 hours to let 3 Z-trains thru this afternoon. Now in ND and apparently back up to track speed, but it was a slow go all...
Anyone know what happened to 8(15) today. It was plugging along just fine until right after WFH, now it's running well over 3 hours late and still in MT. I haven't heard anything from my BNSF folks.
I would prefer the Fall (September/October). June can get quite expensive on the SEA to CHI segment, plus the trains are often less crowded then (fewer families traveling). In June the Empire Builder for example is totally full. Just my two cents worth.
When I travel solo on Amtrak LD trains I usually opt for the lower Roomettes and have never had an issue with excessive track/wheel issues. Only once did I ever hear kids from the family room out of perhaps several dozen trips in room 14. I agree with the other comments that overall it is...
