Amtrak Solar Eclipse viewing April 8 2024

My original eclipse trip was south station to Depew New York and then decide what to do from Depew if anything. Buffalo had the best totality of any of the cities in the northeast that would’ve cost me $160 bare-bones Amtrak and maybe another $40 for Lyft drivers, and if the Depew Station...

    VIA Northern Quebec Service

All three sandwiches are pretty good. From Moncton to Halifax I had the café almost to myself for several stops. I had the falafel sandwich, and I would say it was better than average whereas Boston falafel is way way above average. While on the Mapleleaf to and from Buffalo and Toronto, I had...

    Hotels convenient to Amtrak

The Fire House hostel in Austin TX is about $149 a night for two in your own room. If you don’t mind being in bunkbeds with a whole bunch of people, it would be a lot cheaper. I always try to book directly to the front desk of where I’m staying and not the nonsense you get when you book through...

    Hotels convenient to Amtrak

Just drove thru Wiscasett ME and rested from my easy drive thru Canada and eclipse viewing in Houlton ME parked at the inviting and well lit train station parking lot. Very nice Inn’s / beautiful about five to choose from. If Amtrak decides on Rockland this a great departure site.

    Chicago Union Station discussion

A phone conversation that I just had - an AGR agent told me that $50 will buy a day pass for a coach passengers at CHI’s Metropolitan lounge. I did use the lounge during the pandemic on a $50 day pass . Oh yeah, I hate asking directions and the Food Court takeout restaurants are not that easy...

PLEASE NOTE: I was n error and a $50 Coach pass is no longer available in Chicago. The following is from an experience I had a few years ago., In typical Amtrak classiness and style, There’s a container with shampoo and soap, but it might be best to bring your own. Start out by going to...

Rail service and travel by rail in India and Bangladesh

My goodness - railroads of India and Bangladesh are expanding in leaps and bounds. My plan to visit the cities of Cox’s Bazar and Feni. I need help to determine if I should get an “airport visa” or a visa well before the trip. My plan is to meet a guide/driver/translator in Cox’s Bazar then...

    Tipping on Amtrak

I was a newspaper carrier, the tips I received were more than half of what I earned on my route. Tips make the recipient feel good. If someone is having a bad day and receives a 5% tip they are going to feel bad if they are used to 15 to 20%. So good or bad I try to leave 20% or better. On...

    Buffalo, NY

This is great news. I was thrilled to recently to have had access to the exterior of the BCT site. Interior tours can/have be informally arranged. it’s great that East Buffalo is getting attention. Nearby is a Tesla Giga plant, at least three somewhat nearby major routes in/out of Buffalo’s...
