Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

Yes, 11th. No such thing as 1th. LOL

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

According to Google, Primanti's would be an option if westbound, Pennsylvanian to Capitol Ltd. But not eastbound Cap to Pennsy. They used to be open all night, but now close at 10pm on weeknights and 2am on weekends. From Amtrak (closest crosswalk 1th St.) to Primanti's (18th St.), there are...

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

It's been awhile, so I wonder if the Greyhound station steps away across Liberty Avenue offers any sort of food or drink service? Failing that, would vending machine service be viable at either Amtrak or Greyhound so as to provide overnight food and drink availability?

How much of the Amtrak map has one covered?

Having first become enamored of train travel in 1976 when I had to take a few business trips between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia (Broadway Limited mostly), I made a point of studying the Amtrak (and later VIA) systems, timetables, etc. Then, in my mid-20s, I learned about Amtrak's USA Railpass...

    Tipping on Amtrak

On both VIA and Amtrak, I tip the dining car waiter serving me a flat $5 for breakfast, $5 for lunch, $10 for dinner. If there is another adult in my party, usually he/she/they handle their own tip. No kids so not relevant to discussion. Cafe attendents $1 or $2 depending on my purchase, maybe...

Flixbus accident in upper New York State

Why do we the people tolerate a legal system designed to facilitate avoidance of responsibility by corporations so easily?

    Auto Train discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

The difference might be that Starbucks uses the sous vide method of prep, while most of us would likely use a microwave to heat them up. Idk what Amtrak does. At one time a few years ago (pre-Covid) I heard they were experimenting with sous vide but unsure how that went nor what they are doing...

    Capitol Limited discussion

Most days, the 29/30 consist is spartan. One coach, one sleeper, one diner, and a baggage car. No wonder it is often "sold out." Every so often an extra coach or sleeper may be visible, but these could be deadheading. Anyone know for sure?

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

That's good to note, at least for Acela. There is a disclaimer on the Amtrak menu page that menus are subject to change, etc. so I'm wondering how reliable what is posted will be vs reality. Next trip on Amtrak, I'll print out what is relevant to my itinerary and compare. Even if there was good...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I did a search for "menus" but came up empty, so this is at least an enticement to travel Amtrak, right? However, it is by definition a group of static sample menus, not necessarily matching what is actually served. It seems to me that when Amtrak puts a revised menu into effect whether...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Is there a way to view the Amtrak menus for a particular train from a home or work computer a day or two before traveling? If so, I'd skip the QR coding and cell phone hassles on board by printing the menus to bring with me. But that makes too much sense, right?

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

Did the National Ltd stop in Columbus? I'm thinking it might have but not 100% sure. It did stop in Pittsburgh but veered west toward Kansas City and St. Louis -- not Chicago.

    Lake Shore Limited discussion

Whenever I view the webcam at Elkhart, there is just one coach and one sleeper designated 448 or 449. Plus a cafe car. That's it between Boston and Albany. Is there that low of a ridership demand? Seems a waste of resources, and adds time to the overall trip due to the time spent in Albany...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion

I've always found having the toilet right there in the roomette to be kind of gross, and sometimes the source of odors, also worse if it malfunctions. Even if I'm solo. Totally unacceptable if there are two of us.
