    NYC to WAS

And you can save even more money by doing the "Trenton Shuffle", that is, NJ TRANSIT Northeast Corridor from New York to Trenton, SEPTA from Trenton to Philadelphia, and then do the splurge for the Acela from there. On weekdays there is also commuter rail between Baltimore and Washington...

    another Keystone/ACL question...

You can go down to the lower level platforms at 30th Street unchallenged if you look like an NJT passenger. If a train happens to be boarding, they will open one of the even-numbered stairways for you to walk down. You may have a little time down there to catch some action, although once the...

    Passenger Train Journal

I got mine last week as well. It's good to have it back. But it will never be as thorough as it was when David Warner was one of the Editors.

    Continental Onepass card?

AFAIK this has to be done in increments of 5,000 miles at a time. So you can only transfer a nice even amount like 5,000, or 10,000 points. That's unless they have changed things, but I doubt it.

    Portand Hotel

Shameless plug time! For hotels near MAX light rail, the Vintage Streetcar, or Portland Streetcar, see here: http://pages.prodigy.net/kevinkorell/hotels/hotelpdx.htm

    Modified Silver Star schedule

In examining the future schedules from 1/21/08 and beyond, it appears that both southbound trains (91 and 97) are being pretty much left alone. As has been mentioned, #92 is leaving Miami exactly 3 hours later than it does now. One reason the change is so drastic is that you have to avoid...

    question about emeryville hotel

Good point from Steve. If an Emeryville hotel is however chosen, there is a free bus line called Emery-Go-Round which runs throughout Emeryville and serves the MacArthur BART station in Oakland. But its timetable is hard to follow and it is confusing to the outsider just where their stops area...

    Possible end of Evacuation Fleet?

Bob, one proposal I once saw (back in the days when Amtrak had some rare things called cash and spare Superliner coaches) was to run a second Crescent section with Superliner equipment, with Washington being the northern terminus. That would take care of that 2 AM New York arrival! But it...

    Amtrak Store

And what happened to the 2008 Amtrak wall calendar that is supposed to be there (and advertised in the NEC Thanksgiving timetable) ??

    Bus tituting

I experienced a monumental bustitution some 9 years ago, courtesy of the eastbound Sunset Limited running 10 hours late. I was going from San Antonio to Jacksonville. Rather than having passengers wait that long, they had us take a bus all the way across Texas and Louisiana to New Orleans...

    Possible end of Evacuation Fleet?

Thanks. Wonder if they stop the Crescent right outside the Wilmington Shops to remove the cars, or if they do so at WIL station and then pull them in with a switcher.

    Lack of Sleepers on #66/#67

Would it be safe to say that when 66/67 had the sleeper, it was the only Amtrak train ever with 3 classes (coach, business, and first) ??

    Possible end of Evacuation Fleet?

I have seen posted at another Internet location that the 24-car Amfleet Hurricane Evacuation fleet that has been in New Orleans since the summer of 2006 is on its way in 3-car segments to Wilmington, behind Train #20 (northbound Crescent). This is presently unconfirmed. I was wondering if...

    Downeaster Equipment

Bob, the Downeaster is relatively cheap (compared to the NEC), as is the upgrade to BC ... so it won't set you back too far for whatever small amenities you will be able to partake of.

Crescent to be re-routed out of BHM?

No, No, No, No, and No! I would hope that Amtrak learned its lesson of splitting trains, running them on alternate days over different routes, and that they will never try that again. Ridership suffered when it was done, and increased when the deed was reversed (daily service reinstated)...
