I will have four nights on Amtrak over the next two weeks (two on the SWC, two on the CZ) and remember receiving a nice bag with soap and shampoo in my roomette years ago. However, I have seen that some of the refurbished sleepers now have dispensers in the showers. Either way, I want to double check that I won't need to bring my own soap/shampoo (or towels for that matter) when riding on a sleeper.

(I did not see a good existing thread to add this to, so please merge this if there is a better place for it).

I wouldn't bother to bring soap or towels on board.

In 20+ years, I have never stayed in a sleeper that didn't have soap and shampoo, whether in the room's shower or in the shared shower for Roomette passengers. Towels come with all rooms, and are placed in the closets of Roomettes and in the bathrooms in Bedrooms.

A bar of soap and towels are always provided for you.

You might want to bring your own shampoo if you wish to use some.

In recent years they were only supplying bars of soap, although I did see one report (very recently) that said Amtrak is offering travel size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for their trip. (They included a photo of it too).

I haven’t seen any other reports about this and personally haven’t been on a sleeper in a few months so I can’t confirm weather that’s the case.
