Switching SB coaches to NB at Carbondale, Il

Just curious. Amtrak runs two trains a day each way btwn Chicago and Carbondale, IL. I’d bet each SB becomes the next NB, but I’m curious how they turn the coaches around. I see from openrailwaymap there’s a wye just north of the station. Does anyone know if they use that?

I actually have the same question about any of their bi-directional routes where they pbly turn coaches around one way or another. This one just came to mind first. Others are Chi-Pontiac, Chi-Port Huron, Chi-Quincy, and there are pbly more.

I'am pretty sure there is a Y just outside of Carbondale.

In Venture cars half the seats face one way while the other half face the other. There is no need to turn it, they are meant to run either way. In Superliners, the seat backs can be flipped to face the other way which allows all the seats to face the direction of travel without turning the train.

True, but in thinking about it, don’t they usually have all lower level seats facing the vestibule?

I don't see why they wouldn't be able to turn those chairs around but I can't think of any time I've seen the chairs face the walls either.

The LL seats face the door so that the wheelchair access works correctly. I have ridden backwards in routine service. in LL That's okay with me, but not everyone.

There is a young man named Will who does YouTube videos in that area and filmed the process a couple of years ago.
