Septa has announced that effective Friday December 4th, 2020. Amtrak and NJT tickets will now switch towards the newer Septa Key.

One will go to the ADA Fare Gate at Temple U, Jefferson (Formerly Market East), Suburban, 30th Street, and Penn Medicine Station (Formerly University City) and scan their Amtrak eTicket, that will then prompt the fare gate to open.

Print at Home, Quik Trak, and all mobile eTickets will be accepted.

I’m honestly quite surprised that this has managed to survive all this time. It’s seriously a great thing that ought to be replicated everywhere, but given how backwards transportation planning is in this country and how parochial transit systems tend to be, even when working with other public agencies, it’s incredible that this is still a thing.
