The Clifton Fire Protection District posted some more pictures on the damage on their Facebook page.
Drivers often don't take the added length from pulling a trailer into account, when they are trying to pull across traffic (whether on the rails or roads). I once had a pickup with a horse trailer try to cross a busy highway in front of me. The truck cleared the land with no trouble, but with the 4-horse trailer behind it, I tested the brakes on my Honda Civic to their utmost! Not sure the driver even noticed they had nearly caused a crash.
I read a comment on the FB post about this incident that it can be difficult to see trains coming at that particular crossing.
So even when one operates on the assumption that a train could come at any time, it's still hard to see if one is actually approaching.
I'm glad no one was hurt, either on the train or in the truck.
