Greetings
I am taking the CS in the mornibg from EME to SLO in sleeper car. Leaves EME at 820am. Does anyone know if breakfast will still be available in dining car at rhat time?

I remember the coffeeshop at EME is pretty good and so can get aomething there if it will be too late fobreakfast on the train.

I saw the related post about the train irregular operations up north, but it looks like the train will be originating at SAC.

Thanks much for any info

Breakfast is from 6:30 to 9:30, final call should be at 9:15. You're good as long as it's on time (Should be)

I have done this trip may times boarding at Emeryville. As long as the train came in by 9am (or shortly thereafter) I was able to get on, get scanned in, and head to breakfast. The Coffee Shop has been open in the mornings for the peak train times until at least 10am or so depending on how many passengers are still around so that would be a good alternative. The owner is very nice and happy the trains are back to daily. Haven't heard of any changes as of recent to that set up as of recent, granted I haven't been to the station in a few weeks. Only issue would be any irregular operations.

The Coast Starlights , #11 and #14,are now CANCELLED with No Alternate Method of Transportation Provided until Further Notice due to the Bridge Fire up North!

You should receive a Full Refund with no Fee, but I'd Call Amtrak ASAP to be sure you do!!

I think it's only cancelled between SAC and Klamath Falls? 11 and 14 both departed their starting points this morning.

Today appears to be the last day for that. On Amtrak.com, 11 is showing as cancelled for 7/3 SEA-EUG on both a phantom booking and in the Schedule tab. 14 LAX-SAC on 7/3 is showing as cancelled in the Schedules tab, but is bookable.

Let's me book on the 4th from LAX to Salinas.

Yeah, 11 & 14 are bookable anywhere between LA and Sacramento even though it is showing cancelled in Schedules.

11 out of Seattle is not bookable to Klamath Falls and points north. It is showing cancelled both in Schedules and in reservations.

It looks to me that starting tomorrow they are continuing the stub train LA-Sacramento, but are ceasing operation of the Seattle-K Falls stub train and the bus bridge.

Yep, test bookings for next week show exactly this!

Probably be more traffic taking the San Juan Train/ Bus Combo to/ from Sacramento and LAX since it's so much quicker than the CS .
Wonder if they'll run a Shortened consist on this Stub Train?.

I wouldn't think there's lots of traffic wantingt to go just to Sacramento from LAX in the Summer when it's 100 + there!

There was always a lot of turnover at Bay Area stations when I rode the Starlight. It is popular LA-Bay Area, probably because of the scenery, despite the fact that the San Joaquin/Bakersfield Thruway bus routing was significantly faster.

I will check my email frequently to ensure the details of my trip in August.

Well, before we panic, the train looks fine from Emeryville to San Luis Obispo, which is what PeterKsfo is doing (assuming EME means EMY)

Heck, I'd do that ride in a room for $138 if it was on the right side. You might even get a decent breakfast and lunch.

oops. You are right /. EMY. It was late lst night when I was posting!

Thank you all for the great advice. Yes, the CS did operate today, originating at SAC. Folks from northern points were bussed overnight to SAC.

i took the bus from SFC, and had time for coffee at EMY. I liove the woman who runs the coffee shop there. She is really awesome.

initially, the Amtrak app status page showed the train 3 min late. No big deal. But then i checked the electronic train status display board in the station and did not see train 11 shown at all. Peculiar I thought. it appears that only the Caltrans operated/Amtrak California trains are displayed on the boards. (The CZ also was not on the board). The two “Amtrak” trains are apparently step-children and disregarded. I checked the track-a-train map, and saw the CS 45 min behind.

I went to the ticket counter to ask for more info about the dely, and the agent could not have been more clueless. She looked it up in the system and said that it was “moving” but delayed. I asked why it was not on the board and why no announcements. She said that the boards only display the “corridor trains” - and not the long distance trains. I had already figured that out.

Finally about 9am, both the CZ and CS pulled in at the same time, and an Amtrak employee and a volunteer did their best to make sure people got to their correct train.

To my original question, I did get on the train in time for breakfast, a nap, lunch, and then made it to SLO after a brief delay due to another fire near the SLO station. I am going to the SLO farmers market/street festival tonight (a good excuse to take the train to SLO) - then getting the Surfliner tomorrow morning SLO-LAX.

I've never found the Agents @ the Emeryville Station to be Friendly or Helpful, unlike the Old " Station" next to the Ferry Terminal in SFO, where you could catch the Ambus across the Bay.
