I was wondering how existing cellular and wireless coverage is at Penn Station outside of the Amtrak lounge areas and areas close by entrance and exit ways such as deep at the platforms or concourses. LIRR is signing a deal this week with Boingo for Penn station wifi and cellular and I am wondering if it will reach the Amtrak tracks below and Amtrak portions of Penn Station. Boingo also has the contracts for Grand Central and airports and more. Some guy on youtube obsesses over working payphones at Penn Station and these should come out after modernization projects are completed. Free wifi is superior to payphones and you get to use wireless plans with your telecom carrier of choice (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile or other resellers of these services).

Not sure if this needs its own topic, but I go to Penn/Moynihan fairly often and never noticed any problem with cell reception, even on the trains in tunnels. And Amtrak has pretty decent on-train and in-station wifi. I'm sure you could find a dead spot if you searched for one, but most people running through tunnels have phones plastered to their ears.

I guess reception will improve eliminating more deadspots as well as seeing large increases in speeds as multiple spectrum bands will be added with newer technology.
