Extremely positive article.

But wait—when I saw the author’s picture, it reminded me of something, and then I looked at his name.

Isn’t this the same guy who wrote the extremely negative article about the same (or a similar) trip?

In the old days of print only, writers would write a basic article, then “spin” it in different ways so they could publish it in, say, three or four magazines as slightly different articles, collecting a nice chunk of extra change from the extra articles.

I’m assuming he is doing the modem equivalent here? The more people who click on his different versions, the more money he collects?

Just checked the “negative” article to be sure. Yep, same guy.

To be fair to the print writers who would sell a slightly changed article to a different market, they often were paid so little for the first article that “spinning” it into different articles helped them make ends meet instead of having to research something from scratch each time. It was considered fair if they sold similar articles to different markets and didn’t sell them to competing magazines.

I don’t have any idea how the online market of today works, though.

I will wholeheartedly agree that train travel is far more comfortable than airline travel. You avoid the logjam and traffic at the airports, long security lines, it can be a very long walk to the gates and you have a long wait for luggage. You cannot take any food or drink on the plane and you are limited on any other liquids and aerosols. You must get to the airport 2-3 hours in advance and there is no privacy on a plane. Upon arrival you have to take a bus to the car rental area and drive to the city.
We just took a first class air trip to Phoenix. It was exhausting and really awful. There are people like us that really enjoy train travel but it must be asked what is it worth? Amtrak seems to believe that they can charge Orient Express fares in the sleepers and provide second class service on old worn equipment. It must be asked are the sleepers really filling up at these exorbitant prices or is this a plan to discourage LD sleeper ridership?

I didn’t do any research before posting.
I guess maybe the guy experienced an epiphany upon hearing a distant train whistle.

That’s okay. 😊 It’s just second nature for me after a long editing career checking up on what the authors wrote to keep them from making any embarrassing mistakes!😁

It makes it hard to take any of these reviews seriously.

I’ve decided not to open anything else I see with his byline. I’ve already contributed too many clicks and probably helped support his next vacation. I’d rather support my own vacations!😁

They pay even less. So the economic incentives are the same.
