Unless you ask a crew member you cannot tell if unit is providing traction or not.
Keystones usually have a cab car at one end, perhaps one was bad ordered with no spare available so it was sent with 2 locos. Better than cancelling.
It would be interesting to know if the last coach was a cab car, so when they cut the engine it would be there for the return trip
That also happens on the Downeaster which normally has a "cabbage" (former F40 locomotive demotored and a baggage door added) on the South end but when they are short of cabbages they will use a second P42.

The train had 5 coaches IIRC. Usually, the train sets have 5 coaches and an engine—with the last coach being a cab car. I don’t recall a Keystone have more or less than 5 cars. They may close one or two off—especially on 619..
