Was checking to book other routes when I see this on the website, even on the app it says "service cancelled". Is this something do to with the staff shortage? This is almost a month out.

The return trip 4 days later is still good.

Doing some test bookings now.

Seems like Amtrak IT is playing games with us again. Did several and none were cancelled 1635473163658.png

Addendum: Used evoucher to book with companion coupon. They were not returned to my account yet.

So I called, train was cancelled due to “Service Disruption”… don’t know how they were able to predict problems going to happen about 4 weeks out… but once I get back the voucher i am going to rebook the same train and see what happens…

Track work.

Isn't there a way they can do track work without having to cancel trains? They do road work on the interstates all the time without closing the road down. Having to close a rail line to do track work kind of puts rail (passenger and freight) at a competitive disadvantage.
Maybe a single track area with no viable detour. Maybe a bridge?

And that one has happened many times on Interstates. Moreover, on the Interstates, governments spare no expense, issuing no-bid contracts at high prices with incentives. I doubt the railroads would do that, not only because of the cost but because their (freight) trains can be re-routed more easily than the customer's (i.e. Amtrak's) trains which the freights would be happy to get rid of anyway.

Except the date in the screenshot is 11/25 which is thanksgiving day and is still bookable on the Amtrak website. Would they be doing track work on thanksgiving day and why can I still book this exact trip on Amtrak.com? Weird.

Definitely. I was just saying that track work is a reason for there to be a service disruption alert several months in advance as track work is usually planned out far ahead.

Yeah, no problem now between St. Paul and Chicago for 11/25. Did phantom reservations SEA-CHI on 11/23 or MSP-CHI 11/25. Relatively cheap roomette available out of Seattle, too.

Looks like another IT artifact from those fine, fumble fingered folk at Amtrak IT. Reservations agents don't know any more than what the system tells them, and it is the same underlying system that feeds the website. So I would not have expected a different answer

Hope you got your reservation back.

So I just had to fix this same problem with my upcoming trip. From what the agent on the phone said, taken with a grain of salt, there may have been a database glitch that connected reservations with earlier trains, which have had some or all of their trips canceled, leading to the reservation system saying that they need to cancel the tickets attached... Including mine. They were able to fix the issue, and "reactivate" my ticket.

Calling back since I have not seen any refund or official cancellation yet. Looks like people on the Facebook group also having their trips spontaneously cancelled.

So for some reason it ended up refunded back to the original payment, but the coupon was never returned. Got it back under a new rez so good to go, but man their IT was a mess since the last upgrade may be a year ago? I still can't redeem comp coupon online ( "something wrong on our system" ) so I have to call in every time I need to make changes.

I had a trip booked from CHI to DVL on 11/23 that week and my ticket in the app said it was cancelled last week. However, I never got an email notification. The agent I spoke with said it was a mistake that someone had made with several reservations and she re-sent my ticket.
