I am taking my parents on another great train trip in May 2023. This time, it will be from good ol’ Elizabethtown, PA to Miami. I want to get them a Bedroom and myself a Roomette. They had a blast on the Coast Starlight last year, and they want another train ride to kick off our transatlantic cruise!! I want them to have their own potty and shower. Here’s the question: Should I use AGR points or should I pay cash using my AGR Credit Card? If I end up canceling, I’ll get charged a point penalty. A Bedroom would cost $1400 and a Roomette $500. Suggestions?

100 percent this. The value of points only ever goes one way, down. The longer you keep them the less valuable they will become. I would use them as soon as I had a worthwhile reason, which your trip seems to be.
