Constant tension has the center of the span between weights anchored so each fix point to weight is half distance? AFAIK there has only been one failure of constant tension CAT. That was last year in Portland, Or when temps went over 100 and the weights reached the ground or whatever stop. Then the CAT sagged. Anyone know if Portland has done anything to fix?

Have often wondered if PDX used longer single spans than standard. Or they may have used a too low balancing temp as it has never been lower temps than 20 F.

For what it's worth, our Acela speeded up a bit after we left Wilmington, and we were doing a pretty consistent 125 mph through Maryland (except for the bridge crossings, of course). And our Uber driver who took us home said that it hit 100 in Baltimore today.

We arrived in New York more or less on time, left New York about 9 minutes late due to a "flood" in the cafe car that I guess required that the call a plumber. Then we never exceeded 100 mph all across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, but speeded up a bit after we left Wilmington. We got into Baltimore about 25 minutes behind schedule.
