Hopefully posting this in the right place!
I wanted to share the points that I was rewarded from a recent trip on the NE Regional, in the hopes that someone here can help me understand why I received so many points (I know, awful problem to have, right? Ha)! Definitely not complaining, but I would like to understand the breakdown for future reference.
My round trip business class tickets were $40 in one direction and $33 back home, and I'm Select Plus. I expected to receive 2 points per dollar, 50% Select Plus Bonus, and 25% Business Class Bonus. Here's what is showing in my account:
$40 trip:
80 TQP (Travel Earning)
20 TQP (25% Bonus Business Class)
40 (Select Plus Bonus)
80 (Travel Earning)
20 (25% Bonus Business Class)

$33 trip:
66 TQP (Travel Earning)
16 TQP (25% Bonus Business Class)
33 (Select Plus Bonus)
66 (Travel Earning)
16 (25% Bonus Business Class)

I understand the first 3 points rewards listed under each segment. But why the double Travel Earnings and Business Class Bonus (last 2 rewards that are NOT TQP that I've listed under each segment)? Is there a promotion I'm unaware of, or am I just plain missing something?
Thanks in advance, friends!

Forget the Tier Qualifying Points in your calculations. They are separately determined.

The last three catefories are your arithmetic criteria as I understand it.

For $40 you received 80 Travel Earned Points plus 40 Select bonus points plus 20 Biz class pts.
Question....do you receive TQP's if you "Paid" for your trip using points? I can't seem to find that answer anywhere. Thanks!!

Yes, I get that- thank you. So for my $40 trip example above, I should have received 80+40+20.
But I received an additional 2pp (80) and 1/2pp (20) and I'm not sure why. :)
TQP stands for Tier Qualifying Points, which are used only to qualify for AGR Select status and higher. TQP's do not get added into your points total towards travel. Think of TQP points and regular points as two completely separate things that accumulate in parallel when you travel on a ticket purchased with cash.

So for the first trip, you earned 140 points that can be used to pay for future travel, and at the same time you accumulated 100 TQP towards qualifying for Select status next year. Again, 2 totally separate things. The reason you got more points towards travel than TQP's is that the Select Plus tier bonus does not apply to TQP's.

On the account summary, TQP's listed are only TQP's, not regular points that are also TQP's.

Ahh- ok, I understand now! I didn’t realize TQP points were their own entity; the way they were listed under my “Transactions” in AGR it seemed that they were part of the accumulated points, and they were simply identifying which of those were TQP. (Of course, I did not know what my exact points total was prior to the trip, so I could not confirm this either way.)
I thank you both for your responses and explanation! Again- so minor in the overall scheme of things, but it was driving me crazy!

TQP: (Tier Qualifying Points). ;)

AGR: Amtrak Guest Rewards. (travel points)

I have a question about points too. Last month my husband and I both went on the same trip etc. I earned 1364 travel points and he earned 526 points. Why wouldnt we get the same? Was it because the booking was made in my name?

The person who booked the trip (primary name on the ticket) get both his/her basic railfare and the accomodation charge (sleeper); the additional passenger only gets his/her basic railfare. That is where the difference likely came from.
Sleeper fare is composed of two parts: basic railfare (roughly equivalent to coach fare) and paid by each person on the ticket. The accomodation charge (sleeper) covers both passengers in an accomodation and is paid by the person booking the ticket

I fell like i got screwed on the points.

My trip back and forth from CHICAGO to DENVER. I paid 2964.20 = 2x$1 = 5928 points? Are they going to added more points later on and i should just wait and see?

Or am i totally wrong on that?

Did you travel with some else?

Those points are for a $159 ticket, which appears to be roughly the senior rail fare for traveling between Chicago and Denver in a sleeper.

If that’s the case ‘passenger 1’ on your itenrary would have gotten the points for the accommodation (the majority of the price) plus their rail fare. Passenger 2 just gets points for the rail fare (which is about $159 in your case).

(Unless travel on 8/1 and 8/6 was on a different train entirely).

If not, then call AGR to have them investigate.

yes i traveled with my dad and he was a senior and i had my awards number under my name not his and i was regular fare. I think amtrak gave me the senior fare and did not give points for the rest of the trip.
So it sounds like your dad was passenger 1 (who is supposed to receive the majority of the points), but if he doesn’t have a rewards account on the ticket then he woudln’t get any points.

You should definitely call AGR and explain you were never awarded the points for the accommodation part of your ticket, I’ve never heard of what happens in these instances, but hopefully they will be able to do it for you.

Thanks for answering... Once i figure out what happened... I'll post finally finding on this matter and let the forum know..
If you can’t get the points (because your dad was listed first) then sign your dad up for AGR and then have them give him the points he earned (you can do that up to, I think, 90 days past travel dates). If your dad won’t be using the points himself ask on here ways he can “give” them to you. I know a couple but not details of how best to do it.
