Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

On my recent 6 train trip, the western trains (CS, CZ and EB) were diner or room. Your choice, no pressure either way. On the Cardinal, it was in room only. Lots of those white paper bags being used!

Booked Amtrak Trip. Now I'm Confused.

As far as the value of business class goes, you are reading that persons experience and a lot of times the value of business class vs coach is minimal. We all have different expectations. The LSL is single level; the Capital Limited is two level. My business class experience on the Illini/Saluki...

2020 Voting Has Begun! Registration Deadlines Begin Oct. 4 (Pro-Rail and Non-Partisan)

I've been voting by mail for many years...started out as absentee. Kept doing it because of convenience. This year, we dropped the completed ballots at an official LA County drop box on Friday. Confirmation yesterday. Easy!

Three Weeks. 8,000 miles on six trains. 14 hotel nights.

Thanks. Eastbound on the Cardinal...primarily because it was daylight when we went through the New River Gorge. It was getting dark westbound - perhaps June-July with longer daylight hours would have made westbound better.

Three Weeks. 8,000 miles on six trains. 14 hotel nights.

Not a detailed report but rather a synopsis of our recent Amtrak experience. We've been traveling Amtrak for the past 15 years or so. My wife and I just completed (Tuesday 10/13) a three week trip to Southern Maryland to visit family. Of course trains were wrapped around the 9 days in Maryland...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

"Trip flexibility: Amtrak is waiving all change and cancellation fees for reservations made by September 30, 2020. This includes reservations booked with points." https://www.amtrak.com/planning-booking/policies/coronavirus.html?intcmp=wsp_tab_link_coronavirus_tab1

Most scenic parts of Amtrak routes traversed during the night?

On the Southbound Coast Starlight, if you are traveling under a full moon you will be able to see Mt. Shasta. We saw it once that way and it was a pretty cool sight.

Most scenic parts of Amtrak routes traversed during the night?

Correction for you, Eugene to Klamath Falls is the Cascades, not the Sierras. That segment is beautiful and my favorite on the Coast Starlight.

BOA sent refund check re AGR Master Card

That's good to hear. I've got a cancelled cruise, travel insurance and other expenses being credited back to my AGR card. I was gonna contact BofA to get that off my card and back into my bank so your post sounds hopeful. On the "downside" my points earnings have been negative as they take the...

    freezers in roomettes?

Don't know how long your trip is but, have you considered a cooler with dry ice as me-little-me suggested? Definitely below freezing but the question is, how long will it last before it evaporates? Not going to be easy to re-supply along your journey. Just a thought.

Is Amtrak calling sleeping car passengers for meal choice?

I believe this pre-selection of meals only applies to Eastern LD trains.

Large increase in Empire Builder fares?

You could be correct, I don't know. This is the first time I've had enough of a price drop that it was worth pursuing. Beyond that, its nice having reservations that have no penalty for cancellation. I've already cancelled three earlier this year with no penalty and have several more this year...
