Auto Train Consist Report - round trip October 2020

The Sleeper has half Bedrooms and half Sleeperettes on the upper level. The Deluxe has all bedrooms on the upper level.

    Post-vaccine Amtrak travel

So you must be indicating that Police or Military will be assigned to the entrance of every store, restaurant, school, etc. etc to "check your papers" before entry?? Sounds like something that happened once in History before.

    Post-vaccine Amtrak travel

While I read that 50% would not get vaccinated at all anyway. At 73, never had a flu shot and don't plan to get injected by anything from the "Government"! Can't wait to see the new Civil War when the Government mandates Biden Injections!

    Election results and Amtrak

While you are obviously being facetious...it's a matter of AutoTrain vs. height restrictions...why it goes no further North then Lorton. And with a 3-4+ hour turn-around (i.e., arrives at 9ish, leaves at 4ish)...why it currently can't stop in JAX and end in Miami. From my 10 r/t's-a-year to...

    First time on Amtrak

No...the restaurant tents I saw were HUGE...dozens of tables...all sides closed.

    First time on Amtrak

Just back from NJ. Could someone explain to me what the difference is between indoor dining and dining in a tent with all the sides enclosed??? The restaurants in Jersey have put up tents, fully enclosed, with space heaters...DOH...seem like being "indoors" to me.

Are you using the AGR credit card less?

My AGR started ringing up fraudulent charges. I called (web-site said to call the number) and they said there was nothing they could do since I was not calling from my home phone (out-of-town) and could not "verify" me. I canceled the card as I won't be home for another 2 weeks. Switched to my...

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

Sorta a moot point with my AT...meals never changed other then serving in the room. But the Covid thing cut me down from 10 trips-a-year to none. As-far-as AGR points... canceled my BoA AGR card due to fraudulent charges posted to it.

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

Takes me back to my daze on the American Orient Express. Used it to go back & forth DCA to Chicago.

    Auto Train Meals

They're on for the whole trip (which can start and end at any time unless there's on-time depart/arrival). Our 4:30 departure from SFA was 11:00PM on occasion. LOL and sometimes...NO departure at all!!! There is no crew change (except for engineer) as the one and only 15 minute stop in Florence...

    Auto Train Meals

LOL. I don't have a garage, so I laid an 8' 2x4 across the roof, then measured from the driveway up to the end of the 2x4. Wanna get really anal = measure both sides and get an average between them if you don't think the 2x4 is level. That's math...they don't teach practical math anymore. Width...

    Auto Train Meals

Did I miss them? Didn't see the most popular large SUVs: Yukon, Denali, Suburban. Try this: pull in to a garage, stop right at the door frame....measure mirror edge to doorframe on each side...subtract from doorframe width. Height: same doorframe, open the sunroof, reach up with a yardstick...

    Auto Train Meals

Doubt the Buick is wider then my Yukon XL that has never had a problem in 10 years. Well...do retract the mirrors yourself as if you don't, they tend to just grab and fold by hand which causes havoc on the mechanism. They're made to take it, but you'd have to auto-fold once-or-twice. The guys do...

Amtrak price increases causing low ridership in addition to Covid 19?

That's me! If I had to drive = never see Florida. Way too dangerous to drive: weather, breakdowns, accidents, wear & tear on you and the car, etc. Plus I like having my SUV and everything that will fit in it with me! Though, with the Covid et al...10 trips-a-year went down to 2 (Jan & Feb).

Another luxury (private car on Amtrak) rail service?

Wow. You took me back to my American Orient Express (gone thru a few iterations) that I used to take back & forth from DC to Chicago in the ol' daze! LOL, from the baby lamb chops, piano bar, coat & tie required to heat & serve box dinners, shirts & shoes required today.
