Anyone get this 5x points promo, and did it work for you?

I probably got this offer but since I'm in the process of burning off AGR Points on hotels/rent cars, these offer e-mails go right to Delete.

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

They should just get some stamped metal trays like you see in prison and military chow halls and sling the slop in them.

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

I wonder how these new Amtrak meals compare to what is slung in prisons.

Are you using the AGR credit card less?

Mine gets less than $100/month put on it (no fee version), simply because those are purchases that do not accept AMEX. Since I do not foresee any more Amtrak travel in my future, I am about to begin torching the 100,000 so AGR Points I have left on rental cars and hotels.

QuestIons on Recent Auto Train Experiences?

I would think riding a prison train would be more enjoyable.

Will full service dining ever return to the Western trains?

YES!!!! Those things were absolute classics! The 4-banger trays with the tiny dessert portion were the ultimate; I only wish I had saved some of the trays. Now if you want to go to the other end of the scale and experience nasty, you would have discovered the Libbyland kid's meals, including...

Will full service dining ever return to the Western trains?

If you have ever shopped the deli of Walmart, they have a wide variety of really good packaged salads and they are large enough to feed 2. And they run about $5-6! They have a few days of fridge life as well; so something like that would easily survive the longest Amtrak haul.

Right now, July 2020, may be the ‘sweet spot’ for booking Amtrak travels.

Since I would be forced to wear a muzzle mask and eat dog food in a pseudo diner, my interest in traveling Amtrak has dropped to Absolute Zero.

Eastern Sleeping Car Passengers Pre-Order Meals

Kind of like the dog being able to pre-order what gets dumped into his feeding dish the next morning.

    Parallel vs perpendicular sleeper berths?

If you are berthed parallel, I was taught to always bunk feet towards direction of travel.. That way in case the train derails or goes into emergency, your feet will absorb the impact much easier than your head.

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

I have booked a trip to South Dakota for later this month. I will be taking the Freedom Flyer Northbound (actually North by Northwest) and the Liberty Express back home. I will actually serve as the entire operating crew but will not know the equipment until Enterprise rolls it out of the...

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

The previous pics and video have sure turned me off on the slop Amtrak is now trying to swill out as meals. I'd rather fly and do better with airport concourse chow; some of which is pretty good!

Getting to fly on an 8 itself would be worth the run!

    Amtrak's Smallest Most Powerful Train

Just hit the detector by my house (MP 404.2). 16 axles, which means 2 units, the Coach-Cafe and a Coach; so it remains ADA compliant.

Interesting point. If I remember, I'll flip on my scanner and get the axle count tonight.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak Food Service Discussion

EXACTLY! I am old enough to come from the age when hospitality providers attracted you with SERVICE (especially true in pre-dereg airlines, as fares were fixed). To this day, my final decision still comes down to who provides the best SERVICE for my budget.

    Amtrak's Smallest Most Powerful Train

An article in this morning's Norman (OK) Transcript indicates the Heartland Flyer will continue daily service between OKC and FTW (Texas and Oklahoma feed most of the expense kitty) but the consist has been reduced to a single Superliner Coach/Cafe and a unit on either end (I have not looked...

    Anderson to AA?

AA is sitting on the lip of the toilet rim right now and Anderson will easily push them into the ranks of the fallen flags. C.R. Smith is going 'round and 'round in his grave as we speak!

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

I don't balme you. Unless they let you lounge in the Diner (and I have rarely seen that) you might as well take the bus!
