This gave me a good laugh! I think I saw the old blankets, although Amtrak advertises "Private rooms feature comfortable seating that folds into a bed, newly-upgraded bedding, pillows, towels and linens" for the new Northeast service.

Sunset at the beginning of April in Portland is 7:38 PM, and at the end of April is 8:15 PM. EIther route, you miss some pretty spectacular scenery in the darkness.

I think the Portland section scenery is more unique and extensive. The Seattle section gives you a short stretch of coastal running, then some beautiful mountain scenery. But the trip up the Columbia River Gorge has hours of incredible scenery.

When I rode the Eagle from Los Angeles to Chicago, I was all excited waiting for a smooth, fast track after St. Louis. Smooth and fast never happened, but I did see lots of new fancy fence work along the tracks in populated areas.

It is a sort of comforter instead of the cheap blanket, and new pillow cases (whether or not the actual pillows or bed sheets are new, I'm not sure). It is currently in use on the Auto Train.

I have encountered this also. I think it is within standard operating procedure for the conductor to input that a ticket has been scanned when informed by the SCA that the proper person is in the room.
