    The Parker Peavine Extra excursion

I believe there was a steam charter with ATSF 3751 that did that once because it was a place they could run relatively easily. I also think Trains & Travel a travel agent has ran one or two over the years.

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

I really annoyed some regional flight attendants recently when they were discussing it and I advocated ending regional flights where trains are more competitive. By codeshare I mean something where the Train gets a flight number from the airline reservation and is ticketed by the airline. The...

    First ever Amtrak Experience

I can think of several schools in West Virginia that have used the Cardinal for field trips to Washington, DC because I was there steward for a few years. We would take two private cars and an Amfleet II Coach and use it for them. When I was back in high school our journalism classes (Newspaper...

First NEC Sleeper Journey - A Huge Letdown

Partially because that would take another set of equipment seeing 49/48 is a same day flip. I really doubt Chicago could accomplish a turn in 6 hours. And partially because it is the clean up train east from the western LDs

    First ever Amtrak Experience

My first ride was a special inspection train from Columbia, SC to Charlotte, NC. They were wanting to extend the Piedmont down to Columbia so after No. 73 arrived in Charlotte they ran down the R Line into Columbia. My family took a cat to the vet and then went to the station in Columbia where...

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

I believe they are actually supporting Texas Central because they want to exit the Texas Domestic Market (Let's face it Texas is larger than some countries) because they want the slots in Dallas and Houston to go towards more profitable destinations.

Lufthansa has flight numbers assigned to select DB ICE Trains between Düsseldorf and Stuttgart

First NEC Sleeper Journey - A Huge Letdown

I believe as a northeast regional No. 65/66/67 are under a different set of rules. Someone else will have to confirm this but I'm pretty certain that is the case. National Network trains have quiet hours.

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

I honestly think we should approach regional rail and airline travel as a codeshare. United codeshares flights around the world I can buy a ticket to Moscow from United and it's on Lufthansa from Germany on but it's still a United Ticket. Honestly what I think would make a lot of sense is to...

Inaugural run of the new "Night Owl"

I have ran into a guy in my work who gerryrigged a coat hanger to his head using rubber bands to hold his cell phone against his face to livestream the entire train ride to his Facebook. He had something like 8 external batteries for the 10 hour trip. It was something else. The best part he...

    Sleeper train revival in Europe

Maybe everyone here can contribute a thousand dollars and we can create our own night train :)

Amtrak vs Via Rail Toronto to Vancouver

Its funny for me I would prefer the regular vista domes that the Alaska Railroad has. I prefer the classics. But I wouldn't really use the dome as they have open vestibules which I would probably enjoy more.

    2021 04 08 Amtrak 92, The Silver Star MIA-WAS

That I can't tell you because I've only ever felt them once when I could knowingly feel them. That time I was on the rear of a 30 car consist and for every application you could feel them. I will see if I can ask someone who knows more though.

That is your Decolstadt that you are referring too. There should be a pair of those on each side so that each axle has one. Basically how that works is pumping the brakes so instead of applying force that could lock the wheel to stop the train it applies/releases/applies in such a way to prevent...

Figuring out how far to ride the eastbound Cardinal

Personally I really like Manassas a lot. It has a charming downtown core and a lot of good food option. there is a good taco place a block from the train station, and a great milkshake place at the station. That and with VRE/Amtrak you have plenty of options for onward movement.

Amtrak vs Via Rail Toronto to Vancouver

I mean I would still argue you could run a far better service to western Canada if you would shorten the consist. When you think they are running 9 to 12 sleeper lines per trainset that is insane. You could easily run with 4 per trainset and you would have enough sets to cover the route in...

Amtrak and CSX Track work Virginia/North Carolina

Petersburg to Charlie Baker (Just south of Rocky Mount) is basically the east coast's version of a black hole. If you are the slightest bit out of the pattern or late your train will lose time. At one point this was an all double track railroad back in the Atlantic Coastline Days up into the 50s...

Inaugural run of the new "Night Owl"

I'm with you there I can't see paying that amount to do that short of a run. And I'm a buff but if I'm doing a first run I'm going a much longer distance.

    Stressful on-board announcements

The newspaper trick is really ingenious I never would have thought of it like that. It doesn't work for everyone but it works well for a good portion of the passenger load. I wish we had a better attitude towards foreigners here in the USA. I can think of someone near and dear to my heart who is...

Amtrak vs Via Rail Toronto to Vancouver

I've only done the trip since they did the Prestige roll out however I can somewhat compare to the Parks on the Ocean. Me personally I don't like that they have marked most of the seats out in the dome. My most recent trip there were only two seats (one pair) available for non prestige...
