    A suprisingly tasty flex meal

How 'bout this idea? They won't go back to traditional dining until all those flex meals are gone! ;)

LSL, ALB to CHI best side of train end of May.

See for yourself what scenery is out the window by following the route on the scrollable topographic map available here: MyTopo Search The shaded North side of the train is always best for taking pictures to minimize reflections on the window glass. You can also get some idea of what's along...

Why Such High Prices for The Silvers in February 2022?

That $1238 you found is middle bucket. Low bucket should be about $929 for a Bedroom.

First NEC Sleeper Journey - A Huge Letdown

Didn't know there were tunnels at BBY. The tunnel I was thinking of is the short one at CSX MP 164.8, about 1 mile SE of Canaan Center, New York.

    Wolverine schedule

A dummy booking shows me the connection between the Wolverine and California Zephyr is also guaranteed with 3hr 27min between trains in Chicago. If getting up so early to get the train to Chicago is the main problem, the only alternative I see is to drive to Battle Creek or Kalamazoo, overnight...

    Wolverine schedule

Here's an idea. Base your decision on whether to take the Wolverine or the LSL to Chicago on which is the best place to leave your vehicle. Then buy tickets for the trip and simply plan on getting up early so as to not miss the train(s). Or, to cut your dwell time in Chicago by more than an...

First NEC Sleeper Journey - A Huge Letdown

Could Superliner equipment get between ALB and BOS what with that one tunnel and the catenaries?

First NEC Sleeper Journey - A Huge Letdown

So checked baggage is offered at BOS for the 9 hour ride on this train to WAS but not for the 22 hour ride on the LSL to CHI. Wunnerful - simply wunnerful!

My first post vaccination Amtrak trip -- where to?

Go to Baltimore's Penn Station without looking at any timetables. Go to the ticket window and get a round trip ticket for a two to three hour ride each way on the very next train arriving at the station - without regard for which direction it's going.

    Amtrak 66

This other website will let you find perhaps a half years worth of arrival times in one fell swoop - plus provide average and median delays for that period: Christopher Juckins - juckins.net Here's the last seven months for 66 into BOS: ASMAD - Amtrak Status Maps Archive Database - Train...

    Flynn on Amtrak

Gosh, that'd be terrible. If you lost the TE/SL then you'd have a 5 hour drive to FLG to catch the SWC. Boo-hoo!! Oh. . . .wait! I'm already that far from my closest station. Disregard the Boo-hoo.

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

As long as we're dreaming something really big, why not a route linking the Northeast to Quebec City, QC, CA?

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

Don't forget to include North Bay and Sudbury ON, CA as a potential source of riders within 400 miles (600km) for your relocated Northern terminal for the Auto Train.

Why Such High Prices for The Silvers in February 2022?

Here's an Elmer Fudd analysis. When the AT, LSL to BOS and EB to PDX are added to the list in Post #5, the average cost of the... • East Coast trains with flex dining is 36¢ per mile • West Coast trains with (soon) traditional dining is 24¢ per mile One can only conclude that flex dining...

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

Remember reading a pamphlet in Green Bay decades ago about pax train service for TitleTown. Maybe that little blue line on the map means it's gone beyond the "hey, let's print a pamphlet" stage.

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

That new blue route up to Green Bay, WI would cut my distance to the nearest Amtrak station in half - but I'll be pushin' up daisies before that ever comes to pass.

Why Such High Prices for The Silvers in February 2022?

Based solely on route miles and low bucket Roomette fare, The LSL and CL are tied for the highest cost (in rounded cents) per mile. Here's the info for all the LD routes (except the LSL to BOS and the EB to PDX): CL = 41 LSL = 41 SM = 35 CONO = 34 CARD = 34 SS = 33 CS = 31 SL = 25 EB = 24 CZ =...

6 hour delay between cities 200 miles apart is preposterous!

"I see!" said the blind carpenter, as he picked up his hammer and saw. :) Thanks.
