    California Zephyr Emeryville Wye

This is correct. Not only is the switch for the track that leads onto Union St is locked, crews are prohibited by local Amtrak rules from traversing on those tracks. The tail of the wye ends underneath the freeway and has space for about 6 pieces of equipment. The Zephyr is split in half, each...

Charger Led #5 involved in Crash with Concrete Truck near Reno

I'm sure the cab has held up well in most situations. However, being lower to the ground is just one of the many things every engineer I've worked with hates about them. I just wish Amtrak would consult the people that actually operate these things before placing a huge order to replace the...

Charger Led #5 involved in Crash with Concrete Truck near Reno

Every engineer I know has said again and again that the cab is too low and engineers would get hurt from a collision with something big. Incredible this happened during the long distance charger testing. Is it too late for Amtrak to cancel the order?

What are the realities of the Conductor trainee job?

Definitely consider it! If you get to the interview, ask whatever questions are still on your mind. A couple of the managers from your hiring crew base will be in the interview and usually have previously been conductors so they should have the answers. The company does spend a good amount of...

What are the realities of the Conductor trainee job?

I would say a lot depends on how fast seniority moves in your crew base; this meaning how often people above you in seniority either bid out to another area, retire, are fired, move to engine service etc. I work on the west coast and they definitely do warn you that you could be on call for...

Amtrak Closed San Francisco Ticket Office Oct 28th, 2019

Few points when I asked a member of the CC JPA: - The JPA obviously wanted to run the buses into the new Salesforce Transit Center but the roadblock that came up was how much the transit center authority was asking for insurance. The price was astronomical according to the person I talked to...

    Surfliner Equipment Maintenance?

This is partially true. The version I have heard is that when the single level Siemens are delivered to the San Joaquins, the Capitol Corridor JPA plans to take the bilevel equipment to supplement their fleet. The CCJPA too wants to add more trains/trains with 5 or more cars to ease...

San Joaquin draft business plan for FY 2018-19

I work in the industry in Norcal. Changes are coming to the San Joaquins around April. The Joint Powers board is planning to eliminate the Sacramento Morning Express train; it did not meet their ridership expectations since inauguration about a year ago. The schedule is being changed back to the...
