No water in CZ sleeper car

I dunno... My 16 year old forgets to water the dogs. So I suppose it could happen.

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

Why not an underpass with ramps? But honestly, they should buy out ATX steel and turn that lot into an intermodal station.

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

Interesting that Savannah is on that list. It's what made me think about starting this thread to begin with, considering the money that nearby Brunswick put into their air terminal for fewer annual passengers while SAV sat around ignored. However, it's really not cold or soul-less. It has a...

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

Yes, I actually mentioned Salisbury in the Great Stations thread, but I equally agree with the station part of it to be in this thread as well. The former, glorious waiting area and ticket stalls are all off limits like many on this list, so I think it has equal footing on both threads.

I agree. The town only has 2,000 residents, the station is only a mile from city center, it's cute and heated. That being said, it does accommodate around 20 passengers per day - a pretty decent number for such a small community.

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

Just trying to weed out rural platforms. Idea being that major cities should have pride in their Amtrak stop but they don't. I brought this up here about a decade ago, where Brunswick, GA just built a beautiful airline terminal that at the time was used twice a day, three times a week. The...

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

As a sister thread to Nostalgic and Historic Amtrak Stations Still Used Today, I would like to start one for ugly stations in Metro areas. I'm not going to define Metro areas. Like, I wouldn't want to include Longview, TX which is ugly and soul-less yet in a city of over 70,000. I'm thinking...

Nostalgic and Historic Amtrak Stations Still Used Today

I love Lamy station in NM and the restored ABQ station, though neither historic or nostalgic, attempted to restore at least the external nostalgia factor. I also like Orlando and West Palm stations. Obviously, DC and San Diego and even LA make the cut for favorites. Dallas, though relatively...

Brightline not operating due to Covid? Any idea when they might resume operations.

Well then, my first assumption that I backed away ftom was right. Good to know. Never seen a Class I use this.

    Brightline Orlando Extension

Even if you could get rid of all the grade crossings (my first thought is elevated track from Miami to Cocoa), you will never get rid of all the draw bridges.

Brightline not operating due to Covid? Any idea when they might resume operations.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to share that many of these freight trains are ballast trains, hauling rocks for construction. Last night, I saw a huge ballast consist being pulled by 4 regular locos, and 2 B units. I think they were B units, but they looked like aux fuel tanks...

    Brightline Orlando Extension

Amtrak is literally spending millions to try and squeeze 5 MPH here and there along the NEC to save seconds. Granted, they are already electrified.

    Brightline Orlando Extension

On a completely different thought wave... The section between Cocoa and MCO will be class 7 trackage with a max speed of 125 mph. Why didn't they go for true HSR and build to class 8? I know the real answer is money, but what are the physical challenges to jump to the next level of 160 mph...

So I guess the Malahat is dead?

I started this thread 8 years ago, and this picture was from 14 years before that. October will be our 22nd anniversary. This is my new bride and myself at Courtenay after a 4 hour ride on the Malahat in 1999. Even if they restore the service, it won't be the same without the Johnson St Bridge.

    Brightline (FEC) Update

Even though I fixed the quoted post, I think you know what I meant. To reiterate, as a resort guest parking for free at the resorts, they could park at the parks for free. Past tense was for not paying at resort. Paying for parking at the resort doesn't mean not paying at the toll plaza going...

    Brightline (FEC) Update

Sadly, they haven't had the financial need like Amtrak to do that. Just maximizing revenue based on demand. Used to be that if you stayed in any of the official resorts you could park for free, and you could park at the parks for free. But to be fair, Disney was amongst the last to add on...
